Kenwood Owners Show Us Your Kenwoods!

I picked up a 700M for $250 (non-working) back in October. I couldn’t fix it and another local tech couldn’t fix it either. Then I brought it to the best tech in the area, Matt’s Vintage Audio in Cincinnati, who was about 6 months backed up with work. It’s been a long wait but today I got the...

Plinth with spikes under large speakers

Okay, I am getting some interesting results with different coupling or decoupling techniques but cant quite figure out which way to go. The ideal might be a combination of them but I am not sure how that would work. 1. Speakers directly on carpet - warm smooth sound, a slight lack of clarity...

Plinth with spikes under large speakers

You are correct. The speakers wobble just slightly on these platforms. I tested the sound last night and the bottom end is nearly gone. These speakers have never sounded this light in the bass. Looks like I am entertaining other options. I think I will just end up spiking the speakers...

Plinth with spikes under large speakers

Like I said, I heard a massive difference in bass when I put my speakers on spikes (piercing the carpet to make contact with the concrete slab floor). Otherwise these speakers are on thick carpet and sounds a bit boomy and less low end. So my question is, if I remove the spikes from the...

Plinth with spikes under large speakers

thanks for the pictures and description of what you did. Do you think the sound is every bit as good as spiking the speakers directly like you had it before? Also, what is the "mass loading" granite on top actually doing to improve sound?

Plinth with spikes under large speakers

Do the ball bearings pierce the carpet and pad to make contact with the concrete? That is my dilemma. I want to make contact with the concrete and I only think spikes will do that.

Plinth with spikes under large speakers

I love the sound of my large AR 9Ls speakers when spiked through the carpet to concrete slab. Much deeper bass response and tighter sound than just resting on top of the carpet. They are currently working and sounding great but are now nearly impossible to move with the spikes on (120lbs...

Low compliance alternatives to 2M Black

So it turns out that the 2M series cartridges are too wide for the Denon PCL-5 headshell.

Low compliance alternatives to 2M Black

Well, I thought it was good news. It turns out the 2M cartridge are too wide for this Denon headshell. Mounting it appeared to work but it wasn't completely flush. Im shocked that it sounded good to me with azimuth possibly being way out of spec. If a bunch of spacers were added, it might...

Thank you. This will help. That said, the tonearm on the KD-990 is not completely identical to the KP-9010. However, that is not to say the effective mass is different. The KD-990 is a "static balance" tonearm and the KP-9010 is "dynamic balance". Here is a description on the Dynamic...

Tonearm effective mass question- Kenwood KP-9010

Thank you. Do you by chance have a source or link that states it is 20g (8 grams without headshell)? I can confirm that the original headshell is 12 grams on my scale.

Low compliance alternatives to 2M Black

Here is what the calculator looks like for the KP-9010 with a lighter aftermarket headshell (Denon PCL-5 headshell = 7 grams) with a 2M Black cartridge (7.2 grams and compliance of 22). This is based on the assumption that the tonearm + original headshell is a total of 20 grams. 20 grams is...

Did you find it online? Do you have a link or could you share a photo? Thanks.

I just bought a NIB KP-9010 from Japan. It has never been played and still had all the locking screws and paper instruction tags still in place. That said, it only came with a Spec sheet and advertisement info. No manual to be found.

Tonearm effective mass question- Kenwood KP-9010

I am sure you have found the answer by now as you posted this question 15 years ago! That said, I'd like to resurrect this thread as I just got a KP-9010 and I can't find much information out there either. I did read one response on a forum (can't find it anymore) that suggested the...
