Since its been a few years concerning the DENON 1520/60 Series CDPs.. Just to let you know, after belts {3rd time} and service to the transport (including checking laser focus). I'm STILL more than a happy camper with this old CD player. I'm thinking about renewing the caps in spite of them...

AMEN: I've never found a broken laser . Change the belt(s) and clean up the old lube and if you have an old mechanical scope, adjust the focus enjoy. Trouble is cdp'r owners need to grow a pair and fix what boils down to a dirty mirror. Even if you fail you'll learn something. pc

Teach yourself what issues are common. Buy whatever is needed to get the needed values AND fix the player yourself. I've got a house full of old players and fixed them all. Not one dead laser...(most problems were addressed with belts, capacitors, cleaning lasers and adjusting laser input...

It's not just Denons that are guilty of the issue you had. Most all CDPs are 40+ years new, and never had ANY maintenance. Buy, beg, borrow or steal a Service Manual for your player. New belts, a good cleaning and re-lubing will help things out, without fail. Dig around Google and locate a...

You do not need to buy an expensive VOM. A cheap continuity probe will also assist you. Start at the PS and move on to the controller (the assembly of caps etc. next to where the transport plugs in. I'm guessing the transport isn't the problem... IF it doesn't get going by this point, let...
