Vinyl vs Redbook CD in 2015 -- advice

Well, technically, you can't hold a sound wave, so it is indeed two dimensional, but I feel like a photograph is not a proper comparison. I feel like a 3D scan and 3D print of a carpentry masterpiece is a more accurate analogy. Assuming you can use the same materials and everything (not wood vs...

Vinyl vs Redbook CD in 2015 -- advice

From what I've been reading, vinyl has significantly much less capacity for high frequencies than Redbook's 22.050khz due to the needle bouncing out of the groove.

Vinyl vs Redbook CD in 2015 -- advice

I've spent most of my weekend reading through a couple of these drawn-out vinyl vs. digital threads. My stance has never been that vinyl was technically superior to digital, because I totally understand how it simply ISN'T. That being said, I have collected some because I get a sense of space in...

Vinyl warping - when is it too much?

Do you mean hitting the bottom of the cartridge? That would be bad. I had some severely warped 45s where they barely played on here. :S I got the impression from some Googling that a good sign that you're alright is if the cantilever is staying put, or something like that. There was a word...

Vinyl warping - when is it too much?

Alright, I might as well keep it then since it sounds fine. It'd be difficult to return since it came from an Amazon alternate seller. Amazon themselves will just send out a replacement immediately, but for this one I'd have to send back and buy from someone else. If it's not that bad, I won't...

Vinyl warping - when is it too much?

Hey guys, it's me again. This time, I'm here to ask about record warping. I didn't have my turntable set up this summer when I bought a bunch of records online. I just wanted to ask, in general, is playing a warped record bad for the record, my stylus, etc if it's not really audible? There...

    Turntable stylus and balancing tonearm

My hand moving the counterweight dial can put both vertical and horizontal pressure on the arm, pushing it down and/or across the mat accidentally, which we have confirmed is generally a bad thing. Thanks for your input on the placement for balancing too.

    Turntable stylus and balancing tonearm

A drop from the cue lever doesn't constitute a "hard drop" does it? I'd just use the cue lever to release it, so the worst case scenario would be a light drop straight down onto the mat. I only touched it to "bounce" it since the tip was already presumably hurt. I did notice though that it would...

    Turntable stylus and balancing tonearm

I just realized something: I can just detach the belt from the motor so the motor spins but the platter doesn't. It's OK for the stylus to just come down and touch the rubber mat when it's not spinning, right? If so, then I can just balance it that way; lower the cue lever and if it touches...

    Turntable stylus and balancing tonearm

Maybe I could zero it without the stylus and then put on the needle and use a tracking force gauge to get it to the right weight and ignore the reading on the knob on the arm (since the whole point is accurate tracking force), like just turn it higher until the gauge gives the proper reading...

    Turntable stylus and balancing tonearm

Yes, mine turns on automatically, and it also has a sensor that won't drop the needle until the platter is spinning at the right speed, so I literally can't drop the needle while it's unplugged at all (the cue lift is engaged until both the sensor is tripped and lever is down and only then will...

    Turntable stylus and balancing tonearm

Hello all, I still consider myself a "vinyl newbie" of sorts. Today, I was balancing my tonearm. I have done it with the stylus removed as to not hurt it by touching the slipmat, but I realized that this wouldn't be accurate. I decided to do it with the stylus in place. From me touching it...

    Switching receiver on and off

It seems to work fine like that assuming that's a relay; it seems like that shields whatever problems would occur, maybe because it really is just a plain hard power switch. Thanks for everything guys!

    Switching receiver on and off

That was my thinking, like hey it's already a hard switch for the power button. I just tried it, no pop. I always just did it out of common sense caution, just in case, not to solve any specific problem I was having. Maybe partly so I don't forget where the volume is and accidentally blast...

    Switching receiver on and off

I really don't think it has a computerized on and off. It has a computer with EQ etc, yes. I can buy a replica replacement here, but I didn't because I just wanted volume and I found my phone could do it and saved $40. The picture of the original remote doesn't have a powerbutton on there. The...
