A YT video making a case for older speakers reflecting the country where the company engineered them

It's probably great but AI videos get under my skin so I didn't watch it. Sorry.

Kef 105.2 in a small room?

I bought my 104/2's from a guy who had 105's in a small'ish room... bigger than your question but nothing massive, and they sounded amazing.

NEW Marantz 2230 unbalanced speaker thread

Put the new pot in... all good in the hood. Can't believe after months of messing around with this it was just the volume pot (which I had already swapped out once). Thanks for the help everyone. @dankik @ConradH

Any experience with Black ADS speakers and potentially stripping and restaing

I went though something similar with my KEF 104/2's... they were piano black with some damage and I couldn't decide to just paint them (a good paint job in an auto booth) a cool color or go wood veneer. Having never done veneer before, I obviously chose to do the veneer. Glad I did it, but I...

NEW Marantz 2230 unbalanced speaker thread

Just thinking out loud here... tested the one still in the receiver against the new one and the resistance difference was significantly better on the new pot. Will change it out and reply this weekend.

NEW Marantz 2230 unbalanced speaker thread

    Weirdly, I took the resistance with the opposite lug and came up with quite different results: L/R 2.7/3.0 10% 6.32k/7.23k 12.6% 21.20k/24.02k 11.7% 31.14k/35.42k 12.1% 79.6k/86.0k 7.4% 150.6k/153.4k 1.8% 243.6k/243.1k 0%

NEW Marantz 2230 unbalanced speaker thread

Got the new volume pot in... Took some measurements at various locations on the sweep... are these close enough? I don't want to go through the hassle of the R&R if it's going to do the same thing. My guess is that it will be fine but I'd like your guys' thoughts. L / R 243.1k / 242.7k...

NEW Marantz 2230 unbalanced speaker thread

I just measured the resistance and it's the volume pot. The resistance delta between the two sides stays pretty consistent until I get to that 12'o clock area and then they drift apart by about 20%.... then come back together at full volume... just like what I'm seeing at the speaker voltages...

NEW Marantz 2230 unbalanced speaker thread

Man I replaced the volume pot with a NOS unit a couple months ago and @ConradH you might be right... I just hooked up the scope direct to the volume pot and both signals pretty much mimicked what I've been seeing with all these measurements (if I did it right, anyway). I hooked up to the...

NEW Marantz 2230 unbalanced speaker thread

Man thanks so much for looking at this with me... really appreciate it. Things got weird with this test... @ max volume L/R = 1.92v / 1.97v (2.5% delta) @ 2:30 volume position (where the right signal starts to bump out and look a little different than the left - L/R = .965v / 1.12v (13.8% delta)...

NEW Marantz 2230 unbalanced speaker thread

Thanks @dankik (I was hoping you'd reply)... I reduced the input voltage to 1v and got new measurements: Here's some measurements at the speakers with an 8 ohm dummy load with an oscilloscope set up with a 1khz signal generator: Through the main input with 1v input signal with volume set to...

NEW Marantz 2230 unbalanced speaker thread

Just checked J401/J402 on the tone board and they have identical voltages. These are the inputs, right? If so, it makes me think the balance knob and other switches are fine. I also tested the balance knob (with no idea how to do it properly) and it seems like the resistances match for both...

NEW Marantz 2230 unbalanced speaker thread

Hey guys... I've been fighting with this for a few months now, have another thread going but it's a jumbled mess so I'm starting a new one here on it. Here's the details: I have a 2230 where the left channel plays quieter than the right. It's been like this since I bought it. Here's what I've...
