jbl 1 inch compression drivers diaphrams

thanks, so regarding the size and number of the spirals on original vs aftermarket aluminum, i am going to assume my impression that aftermarket where thinner and therefore more of them. second, regarding the 2421 with the diamonds. where those diamonds also half gold? or just aluminum color fully?

earliest are phenolic, then aluminum with the large spiral outer ring, then titatnium with diamonds? regarding the aluminum, the originals that i could find seemed to have larger spirals and therefore fewer of them , compared to aftermarket. correct? and regarding titanium with diamonds, did...

leaky baffle, infinite baffle speaker mounting etc

so routed out a .25" x 8 long x 4 slots, around the woof. And compared to the other unaltered speaker. The clip is from a phone mic and doesn't represent but it's all I have at the moment. In any case, in an effort to reduce the experiment to all but one variable, the ports sq in was more less...

leaky baffle, infinite baffle speaker mounting etc

that's true. spent time listening, moving the speaker in and out, varying the size of the gap, and still prefer the gap vs stock speaker mount even though it does require re equ'ing. But after eq, I'm better off than stock......I am thinking about routing a circular channel (port) around the...

leaky baffle, infinite baffle speaker mounting etc

there's plenty of bass there's zero expectation bias - I only noticed the sound change because when I was remounting the woofers, I had music going during that time, I was not expecting a thing, and the change is obvious. You can do the same thing and you won't need any measurments to notice...

leaky baffle, infinite baffle speaker mounting etc

well, i should add, i recently cut down this cab a bit. Previously it was rectangle with two ports at the bottom. I took a bit off one side and angled it, accordance with the idea that an angle would help counteract standing waves. Especially since I don't use or like alot of inside cab...

leaky baffle, infinite baffle speaker mounting etc

It's not that i'm thrilled with the idea, or even that it is an idea. I really just wanted to try and figure out what may be going on when this gap is created. And still no one has even made an attempt to address this. which is understandable, as it is unheard of apparently. I don't like the...

leaky baffle, infinite baffle speaker mounting etc

got it. open baffle.(i'd like to alter title of thread, but am unable) Or just when you listen to woofers or full range drivers outside the cab even. just sitting against a wall or in your hand... At least woofers like the 414 which are not typical low end only drivers. How you enjoy certain...

leaky baffle, infinite baffle speaker mounting etc

I understand, that is why I mentioned, that if anyone who has some ideas, reads this, they can comment. Most probably will point me in the prior directions which is fine and correct, but not the goal here. It's comlicated by the nature of many Hifiers (not all) , who tend to be overly...

leaky baffle, infinite baffle speaker mounting etc

yes, I guess they call it open baffle, where the woofer is just sitting in the center of a piece of plywood. And again, that was mentioned just as a point of departure, and not a goal, because I do want some bass, and do not want a subwoofer with crossover. I only mentioned that because I like...

leaky baffle, infinite baffle speaker mounting etc

I don't want to rebuild the enclosure. And I've already played with port size. Therefore I'm limited. Have you ever pulled a woofer out from the baffle and screwed it back in with a spacer? Probably not. So you wouldn't know what I hear, or if it is an improvement or not. Granted, the speaker I...

leaky baffle, infinite baffle speaker mounting etc

With all due respect. I don't think you are following. I am not interested, able, or willing to dial in a traditional port. BECAUSE I am not looking to fine tune the low end. Am I incorrect in this assumpton, that ports predominantly affect low end extension and other attributes, and do not...

leaky baffle, infinite baffle speaker mounting etc

thanks, but that requires software, computers, microphones and tons of time. hasn't someone digested that info and can suggest why this perimeter 'port' does not sound like a standard port? This will require some outside the box thinking. Playing with this vs standard port size, sounds different...

leaky baffle, infinite baffle speaker mounting etc

it's undesigned. Do you think the location of the port, in its relation to the woofer matters? would a rectangle port right near the woofer be dramatically different from the same sq inch sized round port at the bottom of the cab, for example?

leaky baffle, infinite baffle speaker mounting etc

It has a port. If I could, I'd change the title of the thread to - "how to harness the musical info that comes from the back of a speaker while still using a cab"
