Dynaco PAS driving class D amplification

I’ve tried running the PAS 3x to a pair of Fosi ZA3. A lot of background noise. When I bypassed the pre-amp, it was quiet. So I knew it was the pre-amp that was the problem.

Replacing Vol Pot in Dynaco PAS 3x

Thanks all. Looked on eBay for a solder circuit board. All were Chinese and had long delivery times (best I could interpret) so will take the path of least resistance and hardwire the ALPS. Will use a hemostat as a heat sink. I’m very tempted to try the 100k Precision since it appears to be...

Replacing Vol Pot in Dynaco PAS 3x

Peterh - thanks for the link to Mable. They have the pin out for the ALPS which is helpful. Looks like I have a couple of options - the ALPs or the 100K Precision. Will try the ALPS first. I know it’s a knock-off. I purchase it on eBay from a fairly reliable source - Affinity for Artifacts -...

Replacing Vol Pot in Dynaco PAS 3x

Testing with an ohm meter makes sense. Will remove the original and compare to the Alps and the Noble. Will report back if I have any additional questions. Thanks.

Replacing Vol Pot in Dynaco PAS 3x

I need to replace the volume pot in my Dynaco PAS 3x (getting frustrated with the volume imbalance). I purchased a Noble pot awhile back and was provided with the attached wiring diagram. I never installed the Noble pot. I’ve since purchased an ALP. Would the same wiring apply to the ALP? If...

    PAS 3x - ALPS Pot

Finally getting around to replacing the original potentiometer with an ALPS 250k. I intend to keep the loudness switch. Does anybody have a wiring diagram/schematic available? Or better yet, info on the process for determining the wire lead transfers to the ALPS? What I intended to do was...

I still get archaic data on CD’s at work. They make really good coffee cup coasters.

    Dynaco PAS 3X Blown Rectifier

You’re correct. The can cap was probably why there was still some very limited output. I was a little surprised because I thought the cap would completely discharge after 20 minutes or so. The Dynaco instructions tell you to let the preamp sit for 15 minutes before working on it to make sure...

    Dynaco PAS 3X Blown Rectifier

The tube was room temperature so I’m guessing that the heater had to be open. But checking continuity is a good suggestion. Will have to retrieve it from the garbage - if it’s not already gone.

    Dynaco PAS 3X Blown Rectifier

A general question, more for my personal education. Turned on the preamp and volume was very low and distorted. Removed the cover and saw that the rectifier tube was dead. It’s actually original to the preamp (as are all the other tubes). Replaced the rectifier and everything is fine. I’m...

Source for ALPS 250k Pot w/Loudness?

Fwiw - Curcio Audio lists a replacement volume pot for $18. I haven’t ordered one so don’t know if it’s an ALPS and also don’t know if it’s in stock.

Let's hear your horror stories and close calls!

Some of the posts are very funny. I was hesitant to post because my experience pales in comparison. I must have been around 11 years old, had experimented with crystal diode radios, was moving on to ham radio (never made it because my parents weren’t supportive), learned a bit about electricity...

    Thanks. That explains the distinction.
