Upgraded power cables - to use shielded or unshielded?

Hey E-stat I don't know what experience you have in how this stuff works, but you have no idea. Everything you have said is wrong.

Upgraded power cables - to use shielded or unshielded?

So ,am I misunderstanding you or are you telling me that the 3 feet of power cord from the wall socket being fed by 30 feet of 14/2 unshielded suddenly becomes necessary to be shielded

Upgraded power cables - to use shielded or unshielded?

Hey, E-stat you may have misread me. A power conditioner on the wall before the power cord going to the equipment is a good, if you have spikes and brownouts due to bad power, but they only save the power supply. However, anything that happens after the filteration and regulation is separate to...

Upgraded power cables - to use shielded or unshielded?

It is called "Placebo effect" You expect it to do better, therefore it will. A shielded versus unshielded power cord will do squat, as brought up before by other commenters. A power cord before the power supply and its filteration and regulation will have zero effect on what is going out into...

    kef 105/2

No problem, Andyrlb. At your own time. I found the original paper containing the measurements for the wood braces, which is remarkable, considering i had this mod done 30 years ago. I have a friend that had Magnepans, and bought a pair of 105.4, said he preferred the mags. I asked if I could...

    kef 105/2

Hey, Andyrlb If you would like to do the mod to the 105.4's PM me. The 105.4's are a special animal. There are 3 stages of mods that can be done, all are non-destructive and reversible The first is, of course, the input high pass removal, and the repacking of the cabinet. The second requires some...

    kef 105/2

You will like them. A few words of warning. Once every couple years or yearly, give the woofers a 1/3 spin in the cabinet. Second, while you have the woofer out, have a look at the damping foam. Most of the time, they just stuffed it in the enclosure. Take it out, chop it into the right size...

What Speakers can reproduce all the most difficult sounds properly? Voice Piano etc

All recordings are at the mercy of the engineer, the studio it was recorded in, the media it is on and being played back on,etc. However, having said that, do not fall for the " well to my ears". Everyone's ears may have a different response but in the end the same speaker will reproduce the...

    Marantz 4220 questions on Ambience/SQ

Hi, Richs_Trains If you trace the 35volt line to the SQ board, you should find a capacitor C330 220 @35v , probably shorted. Change to 220 @ 50v There is a 56 ohm before this cap, check if it is open or really running hot.

crossover caps in BIC Formula 6

You can vary the capacitor values to a more normalized value with little to no sound difference. IE the .5 uF can be subbed with a .47. Most capacitors have a 10 percent or more tolerance.

    For Kef 105.4 owners only

Hey, Andyrlb Sounds like you are well on your way to hearing the true sound of the 105.4's I will attempt to find the original measurements of the length of the braces. otherwise I will measure the ones in my speakers and make you a drawing. You will kick your ass if you do not put the braces...

Kef reference 105/4 vs Kef reference 104/2

Have 2 pair here, never looked back after the crossover and cabinet mod. Just make sure you have the power to drive them. More info on the mod here http://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/for-kef-105-4-owners-only.763719/

    For Kef 105.4 owners only

This old tech is slowly going to release need to know information and tips of the trade. The Kef 105.4 can kick the 105.2 in the ass as it was originally intended to. The 105.4 was artificially limited to a 55 hz cutoff. Anyone who owns a set of these can pull the woofers and see a piece of foam...

    Kenwood KR-3200 Suspicious Output Transistors

sounds like you hit the nail on the head One of those transistors is noisy by what you said But, also replace CE24 in the tone amp for good measure, it is a 25 volt cap that is running on the pin voltage wise. Saves a pain in the ass later
