    Bose 901 equalizer thump

Thanks for the detailed response! How do you identify a tantalum capacitor? Despite (supposedly) sounding the same, the S III and IV EQs are quite different inside (and I think there is more than one version of the S IV). I assume I would be replacing the six caps marked by the red arrows as...

    Bose 901 equalizer thump

Thanks - so failing capacitors would potentially (a) create the thump and (b) cause DC at the output? I can replace all of the electrolytic caps if this is the likely culprit.

    Bose 901 equalizer thump

Hi, I checked and there is a very small DC measurable in the RCA outputs. Any idea what can be causing this? I haven't been able to find schematics and don't really know what a troubleshooting process for this would be. thanks

    Bose 901 equalizer thump

Hi, I recently purchased a Series III EQ for a pair of Series IV 901s I am refurbishing. The seller had described it as being in "excellent" "plug and play" condition, but unfortunately it arrived incredibly dirty, packed with bugs and bug eggs, with significant cosmetic defects as well as a...

Playing with my 901 V this afternoon.

@maxhifi, I don't have access to a router (and I understand the bits are specialized and expensive). Do you recommend any simpler way to do this? I do have a circular saw, mitre saw, and jig saw... but limited experience and skill in using them (I've used them for construction, not for...

    Bose 901 series 1 grille re-cover

That's an amazing job, and thanks for the info on the grille cloth supplier!! I have two pairs of series IV to repair/restore, and Duvaltex seems to have other fabrics that may suit the later dark brown grilles and have even greater acoustic transparency (like the Intuition and Palette lines)...

How many run a subwoofer w/ their 2 channel stereo?

I'm curious to know what sub you were able to fit behind your fridge - I'd like to do the same!

    KEF Q50 and Q70 questions

For the information of future searchers, I did purchase the Q70s along with a Denon DRA-775RD stereo receiver and a DCM-460 CD changer, which the previous owner had bought new as a package in the early/mid 1990s. My original intention was to immediately sell the receiver and the CD changer, and...

Playing with my 901 V this afternoon.

I recently picked up two pairs of 901 IV in need of refoaming, refinishing, and eq. One of the units has significant cabinet damage from being dropped - the pointy part has broken off. I'm not quite sure how to approach any repair on the damaged unit, if anyone has any guidance I'd love to...

    Bose 301......my opinion has changed

I used Klipsch La Scalas frequently in the early 1990s as a mobile DJ - they definitely went loud, but I never felt they sounded very good. My memory of them is lots of mids but limited bass. I don't recall specifically what we powered them with, but our company had all late-model high-grade...

    Bose 301......my opinion has changed

I remember in my late 1980s club days all the best clubs had Bose (likely 802?) speakers, and they sounded awesome with clean sound and deep pounding bass. What I don't know is whether they were using subwoofers or other bass speakers to enhance the sound. I also had extensive experience...

    Another Bose 901 restoration thread

Just picked up two pairs of 901 IVs (one speaker with severe drop damage to the wood at the pointy part of the "V"). Like yours, they are in desperate need of refoaming. Great job on your rebuild and thanks for the detailed pics and commentary!

    Bose 301......my opinion has changed

I've recently installed a pair of 301 IV in my kitchen/great room. They do a fine job of filling the space with sound, especially backed up by a subwoofer. I think they're about perfect for ambient (ie non-critical-listening) setups.

    Subwoofer amp replacement - Canada

Hey all, I just wanted to update this post. I've successfully repaired the BASH amp that was not functioning. A buddy of mine helped trace the problem to the "linear amplifier" board, and after checking all of the electrolytic capacitors (which were all failed) I purchased replacements and...

Let’s mix it up a bit - BASH - Bridged Amplifier Switching Hybrid

HI @jefferylhenr , did you ever manage to get this sub working? I'm trying to fix a Tannoy TS10 with a BASH amp - it powered on, but no sound. My friend helped trace power through the power board, but it stopped at the amp board. After removing all of the electrolytic caps on that board, they...
