814 tube

hey-Hey!!!,
Type 814 will work with ordinary output TX's. What is needed is a driver stage capable or delivering grid current. 814's will not do much without taking g1 positive. It should sound very nice; it is a Thoriated Tungsten cathode the same size as an 845.
cheers,
Douglas

wow, that thing should be capable of some serious power judging by the specs. 1500v on the plate and 65w plate dissipation? Wired up right, that should make a pretty killer SEP amp tube. Could you drive that with something like an EL83 ?

specs say the G2 max voltage is only 300 though. Not going to get nearly as much power out of it at that voltage.

hey-Hey!!!,
It won't matter if you rig triode or pentode; it will not deliver much power w/o grid current. IMO getting a pentode ironed out would deliver better results than strapping that as a triode...but there are lots of tubes that are easier to work with...:)
cheers,
Douglas
