Akai cassette deck

Hello all I have a vintage akai CS-M4 cassette deck but there are a few things that I would like to sort on it and dont know how to.
First of all the audio sounds quite unclear and muffled
Second I can hear the cassette deck 'clicking' as it plays the tape which gets quite irritating to say the least

Pictures a bit large... regardless have you cleaned and demag'd the heads? It's one of the first things I do when I get a used but new to me deck. You can use 91%+ isopropyl alcohol and a q-tip. You can also use this on the rubber rollers but others have differing opinions. Not familiar with the "clicking" issue.
 
I have tryed most of my cassettes as was using it to listen to them but it has just annoyed me so much with these problems that I am going to fix it or bin it . I have cleaned the heads but have not de magnetised them , I am hopefully going to clean the whole thing today :) and I think the clicking could be to do with the fact that as soon as you press the power button you can hear the motor but you have to press play to engage the gear to actually turn the cassette . and sorry for large picture I am using Tapatalk and just used the built in upload from camera function
