I don't think these were anything too special.Has an eq on it I think.I turned one down at a thrift store a few weeks ago.I think they wanted $10.If it is cheap enough grab it...That is about all I know.

Now I've done it!

Well I just won it for $10.51 on e-bay. When it arrives I'll post info. :scratch2:

Orion's not going to have every model listed that Sansui ever made. I have written before about the 1980's combo rack Sansui models, such as the A series integrated amps. They are ok, but not the best quality stuff that the company made which is obvious from the cost-cutting construction - light, flimsy, and plastic. But if you want something just decent and dont plan to put the amp to rugged use, it'll probably be alright, and atleast you wont have to shell out much $$ for it. If I recall correctly, the wattage is around 100W or so, but I'd have to look into it to confirm that. I am quite sure its an amp more suited to 8 ohm speakers, though thats not to say it would immediately blow up if you connected them to 4 ohm loads (such as when Ive used my B-3000 power amp and it seemed ok with 4 ohms. Note: thats B-3000, NOT BA-3000, two different amps).

Dont be afraid to simply do an Online Search on your own for more Info - for example: http://www.audioweb.com/Ad/AdInfo.asp?adid=144268

You can always email the seller and ask him for more Info on the amp and what his experience with it has been, (though if a seller still has the amp and wants to sell it, he probably will over-exagerrate how good he thinks it is)

I saw a silver version of an amp similar to this several years ago at the thrift for $15 but the cord was cut so I could not test it and passed, liquid cooled design, was otherwise built OK. Should be fairly decent for an 80s piece of gear. Some of the integrated amps, notibly the big Sanyo, Fisher and Akai units from the 80s were not too bad either. Probably decent enough for $10.51.

I know this thread is old, but this amp will NOT be stable with 4 ohm loads. Surprisingly enough I had two car subwoofers hooked up to it for a year and a half before it finally blew on me, but when I took it to an electronics guru and he told me it was miraculous that it lasted that long. But yeah... I blew one channel in that amp, and even after being replaced, it still isn't as strong as it originally was.

If you use 8 ohm speakers though (I would test them just to make sure they're 8 ohms) then you shouldnt have any problem. This amp is about 130wpc and it'll crank out the tunes pretty loudly. The 5 band graphic equalizer and peak power meters are also nice features. Totally worth $10 I'd say. Hell, I'd buy another for $10 anyday.

I know this is an old post, and I am a newbie here and what more, I own a Sansui A-1110 amplifier and its stable mate Sansui T-505 tuner. I also am interested in the specs of this amp, I know that it isn't one of the best of Sansui's amplifiers but all in all it delivers the goods. It performs decently and coupled with my vintage Pioneer CS-F45 speakers they can rock my house down, figuratively speaking. I haven't really appreciated its performance before I had them Pioneer speakers as they were formerly paired with Sansui SP-X6900 speakers and after I hooked it up with the Pioneers, man, I can say that this amp is pretty good and may compete with the best of them. It may not be a purist's dream amp or even a collectible but it is my ONLY amp and it has served me well these many years, and I think I will keep it and listen to it play my kind of music, which is mostly hard and classic rock, jazz-fusion and some smatterings of new age and ambient. Maybe when I can finally score an AU 919 (my dream amp) and maybe a pair of HPM 150's hooked on it (keep on dreaming!), I may think of retiring it to the outhouse with them spx speakers, but until then...let's keep on rockin'!
