Any Atlanta Rhythm Section fans out there?

I have always been a big fan of ARS. I was lucky enough to see them in High School. A friend of mine won tickets on the radio. They played Delta State University in '81. The new lineup is really good. I understand the only founding member is the keyboardist. I have their dvd and it is really good.
any thoughts?

New line-up? I didn't know they still existed! I liked them years ago, and would buy an LP of theirs in a flash, if I found one locally. :yes:
 
I haven't heard the new line up, aside from the YouTube clips. I don't know how they can sound like the old band with one original member.

Third Annual Pipe Dream, Rock and Roll Altternative are my favorite LPs. I picked up a sealed copy of the Are You Ready live LP a few months back from eBag.

I saw them on the Champagne Jam tour, in front of the stage. They played with Sea Level and UFO also on the bill. The crowd left after UFO so we just walked right up front and enjoyed the show.
 
Atlanta Rhythm Section

Great band. Robert Nix and Paul Goddard make up one of Rock Musics better Rhythm Section-IMHO. Lots of Cool songs with "The Ballad of Lois Malone" and their cover of "Outside Woman Blues" being two of my Favorites. :music:
 
Have had my copy of "Champagne Jam" for over 20 years. Great group some of the members had some ties to a group called "Classics IV" (Spooky) that had some hits back in the late 60's.

Yeah, I was just a little disappointed with the DVD 'cause it wasn't the original singer, and "Spooky" just doesn't sound the same. That being said, I still enjoyed it, somewhat... :smoke:
 
The first ARS album on Decca that's never been released on a CD (last time I checked) is a great album. This is my personal favorite ARS album.

Ronnie Hammond passed away a few years ago I think. It is hard to duplicate Ronnie's voice. He had the unique voice that when you herd it you knew who it was. It is kinda like Styx without Dennis DeYong. They just are not the same. I do like the current lineup of ARS. I would absolutely go see them again. I have their first 2 albums that were released as a "specially Priced 2 record set". I will get a copy of their first album just to have it.

My, My, what memories, ARS, from Doraville, Ga. Was one of my favourite bands back in the late 70`s. :yes:

1978 Labor Day weekend, Bobby Dodd Stadium, Atlanta, Ga. a concert called "Champagne Jam". Along with ARS was / Mothers` Finest / Eddie Money / The Doobie Brothers / Santana / and a few other ones I can`t remember. The place was packed. What a Show! :banana:

IMHO, they were one of the best of the southern rhythm sections out there. And, yes, Dennis Yost (Classics Four fame) used them extensively for hit making.

Yep, heard ARS back in the 70s, too. The college folks I went with were unimpressed by the band's showmanship, however, because these guys just stood on stage and played their butts off. They were expecting a stage show that never really got off the ground.

The music, however, was tight, well-rehearsed and highly professional.

Seems like I saw them no less than three times on tour with Bob Seger back in the 70's, and the last time at a free show in Gatlinburg, I believe in the mid-80's. Great band! Their last album that really floored me was "Quinella".
 
Ronnie is still with us according to their website:

Singer Ronnie Hammond, who had battled depression off and on over the years, got into a confrontation with a police office in Macon, GA and forced the officer to shoot him. Hammond was seriously injured, but survived the injury and dealt with the depression.

I saw them back in '78 on a Quad bill, April Wine/Journey/ARS/Rolling Stones. I thought they were very tight and won over a hostile crowd with their playing. One of those bands that when you hear them, you realize how good they were.
 
Ugh, it's a pity that more people don't know who ARS is. My dad got me into them when I was a kid. It was the first classic rock group I can ever remember listening to, and is still one of my personal favorites to this day.

I want to get the Mobile Fidelity half-speed master of "Champagne Jam", but they are so expensive on ebay. Either two things will happen. First, I will just break down and buy it off of ebay, and all will be over with. Or, my dad will die and I will get his copy, and all will be over with. One way or the other, I will eventually have a copy. (Sorry Dad!)

Thanks, have never seen that album but will keep a watchful eye out for it. Do have most if not all their other albums. Spooky is one of my favorite songs done so well by them.
 
Spotted this old post. Just bought and listened to A Rock & Roll Alternative for the first time in oh...35 years! The songs I liked the best were ones I didn't even remember. It's a pretty good LP and the copy I picked up is in great shape.
