Hi All, I just got a pair of Heathkit A-7 mono amps. Both have the MM section. Wondering what to do with these. Do I make them straight amps with out the MM and tone controls or rebuild them as is?

I have a pair; I haven't messed with them much.
If you googled, you found Kevin Kennedy's page on them - that's about all there is out there.
They are perfectly OK as integrated amps (7-ish watts a pop); never tried the MM preamp but I wouldn't expect much.
The stock potted power transformers are barely up to the task; if yours have original power transformers, they're probably living on borrowed time.

Yep, there is not much on the web about them. They have the cutest little OPT I've ever seen. Both of these have the MM but no where does it say which version they are. I'll be able to tell when I compare them to the scheems. Pix soon

I believe that I have one of these kicking around in my garage. I have no idea what to do with it as I'm not into mono, and have a selection of superb amps already.

... perhaps more transformers would have survived if Heath had included a FUSE in their design.

I owned two A-7Es myself, not at the same time, unfortunately. Both gone now. There are four versions of the A-7 schematic on my web page: http://www.audiophool.cjb.net/Audio.html

They weren't the only one to skip the fuse - we lost an EICO HF-12 to self-immolation (shorted PT or other P/S component) when I was a lad at the ol' ancestral home. Interestingly, the HF-81 had a fuse in it...
