Anyone Like Dynaudio Speakers?

I went into a record store yesterday and they were running some with a Marantz amp and an Audio-Technica turntable. I didn't get the specifics on any of the equipment but he said the Dynaudio speakers were pretty much entry level and he purchased them several years ago for a $1000 or so.

All I know is they sounded good, and I was wondering if anybody had anything to say about Dynaudio speakers in general, and what a good inexpensive pair of their two-way bookshelf speakers might cost.

Thanks in advance.

You can find some fine Dynaudio Emit or Audience series bookshelf speakers on that popular auction website for between $350 - $750.

Hey ok, thanks @eiraved . I was just wondering if some of the lines were held in higher regard than the others, like for instance, the Evoke. I've got a little research to do.

If anybody's had any experiences with the speakers it would be great to hear from you!

I have Dynaudio contour 3.0 speakers. I think they sound fantastic. Many of the Dynaudio speakers (mine included) use a first order crossover which I really like the sound of. Many Bozak’s ( if not all?) also use 1st order crossover and I have a pair of them as well. Dynaudio’s fit/finish is very nice. I wouldn’t call Dynaudio an entry level brand, though the low of their line is “reasonably” priced. The high end of their range is quite pricey, at least for me they are. I power my Contour’s with a Marantz PM-11S2. Seems to be a good match.

Thanks for your input. Do you think a Sony 6060 would be enough to power some Emits?

My Contours like a bit of power to open up, but I don’t listen to them anywhere near their max SPL. I don’t know anything about the Emit line, but if you like your music listening on the louder side, you might be taxing the Sony a bit. Good luck.

Ok thanks a lot.

Many years ago I sometimes used Dynaudio drivers in DIY projects but they no longer sell drivers to DIYers. Given the high price and superb build quality of their line of drivers at that time I doubt their current entry level speakers are using such drivers. The Dynaudio speakers I heard in Hi-Fi shops were large expensive models with excellent clarity, tone, dynamics, imaging and soundstage--first rate.

Thank you. If that's true I wonder if older entry level models would be better speakers.

I’ve had a couple of MSP-80 (turned MSP-100’ish after a party mishap) since 1984. They are great little two way speakers, and still do a very good job.
The “magnet inside voice coil “, and hexagonal coil wire were Dynaudio specialties at the time, and the 28 mm soft dome tweeter is a classic, but may need an oil change. The woofers will have foam rot unless they are the ones with the rubber surrounds, but refoaming is manageable.
Dynaudio has always been at the forefront of Danish speaker design, and vintage models can be very good value.
Notice that the dust cap actually sits inside the voice coil o_O

I have a pair of Audience 42 speakers. They are a small 2-way speaker. They sound wonderful in a second system. They do like a fair amount of power. I used them with a 70 watt integrated and they were astounding for their size/price. I think I paid $2-300 used several years ago. I don’t plan on ever selling them. I am biased though. I love well-executed 2-way speakers. Harbeth 30.1s are in my main system

Nice. With all these speakers, I'm realizing that I would also have to get an amp with a few more watts.
