AR LST-2's

I just had a pair of minty LST-2's walk into my store, I've had most AR speakers (love them) but never the LST-2. Please give me your thoughts.

I am thinking I would have loved to seen them walk in!

But really I have no clue about that model. From what I've heard they are somewhat rare.

The LSTs are rare and a sort of AR collector's holy grail. The LST-2s are more common but still a good speaker. My friend's father had the LST's and they were ( at the time) amazing to this 16 year old's ears. Never heard the LST2's. They were the economy model of the design-not as large, heavy or expensive as the original. AR ( at the time) claimed that the only difference was the bottom octave. Whether that was true or just marketing, I couldn't say.

If they are reasonably priced, I'd go for them.

I got to hear a pr of LST-2's a few months ago, and though one woofer in each speaker had been replaced with a Rockford Fosgate car woofer, they sounded amazing. The imaging and dispersion was just fantastic.

There is only one woofer in each speaker along with 3 tweeters and 3 midrange drivers. These are good speakers but you need to check all 6 mids/tweets to be sure they all work. I think they sell well above their performance level but they do contain a lot of drivers so that may have some bearing on the prices I've seen. I had a pair here for an extended stay a few years ago and although I owned the AR-5 back in the day, I didn't warm up to the sound of the LST/2. The TimeWindows and Magneplanars got the amp power most of the time.

i remember when LSTs were still being used as playback monitors in some studios. this was about '72.

i heard an LST/2 once for about 15 mins. not enough time to form a lasting opinion on them but i recall not liking them as much as the LST.
