Today I was at a Goodwill outlet store. If you do not have a outlet store in your area, like merchandise is just dumped into large tubs that are on wheels, Records, VHS DVDs, electronics, china, glassware, clothing. And prices are pretty cheep. There were three or four tubs of books that two young men with bar code readers attached to a small Dell PDA were going through. They had a couple of shopping carts overflowing with books they had collected. I asked one of the fellows what was he up to, as I had never seen this before. He told me that after reading the bar code the PDA will give him the popularity of the book and a used price guide.
I did a little research tonight, and it looks like they use a Dell Axim PDA, along with www.asellertool.com program. I talked to another fellow later in the day and he said there were a group of about 20 Guatemalans in the Seattle/ Tacoma region that were using these barcode readers and buying books /CDs and what ever as part of a bigger operation.
It kind of boggles my mind on what people come up with. I guess this technology has been around a few years, I just found out about it today.
Just to be able to retreve so much information in seconds on a hand held device is something.
