I got a pair of these for $37. I guess they were sold as computer speakers. They sound pretty nice,:thmbsp: my first set of Bose. Anybody ever seen or heard of these? The "wood" is actually "vinyl".:thumbsdn:

Nope those are new to me.

But one of them has a pushed in little dome thing. Sooooo get yourself a small hose. Or a pen. Some sort of small tube. And try popping it out with some suction. If you need to make a better seal whip out some Ticky Tack or play dough to make it better.

If you can't do it yourself pull out the vacuum for some extra power. It DOES make a difference.

Look like nice speakers. Really big rolls on those surrounds on the woofer. Impressive.

Enjoy them.

Actually, my camera is in the shop, I lifted these pics off the web. all the parts of the pair I got were in really good shape, thanks for noticing. I am enjoying them so far. sticker on back says they are rated @ 10-150 WPC/8 ohm.

They look alot like half a bose 601. (I own a pair of those)

So both put together makes 1 bose 601 :p:

Just kidding. I'd probably rather have those. As I mentioned your woofer looks much more impressive. Looks like it can move in and out almost 1.5 inches with ease! And those are also a sealed enclosure from what I can tell. From the speakers I have heard I seem to prefer sealed enclosures.

Apparently when you actually start pumping lotsa power into bose speakers they REALLY wake up.

My bose 601s are nice at about 10 watts. But at 80 watts :music: it's just hard on the ears.

I'll stop rambling though. Hopefully someone who knows more about them will share some knowledge soon.
Cheers,
Rudy

You don't know the deal you got

Those speakers were an absolute bargain at $37.
I just sold a pair (in black) for $380 on ebay plus $47.50 for shipping.

That is a nice pair of Bose 4.2's. First time I have seen a Series II model.

I've heard them. I like them better then the current 201 and 301. I would not get them for fidelity however they sound good enough that I'd be perfectly happy to use them with company. In fact they're ideal for that because they're so small.

I am very jelly.

I purchased a pair of 4.2 series 2 about 20 years ago at an electronics store, I think I paid around $400 for the pair, still have them and they are still going strong.

I had bought and sold two pair over the last 10 years got my 3rd pair ( $100) for surround rears on my 5.1 system with the 901 series 2 for fronts . Great audio sound for movies with a Klipsch center speaker and yamaha sub. .I still listen to albums threw my large advents and a marantz 2230 tho .

Yep. That was my very first "real speaker purchase".
I bought them at Best Buy around 1994(ish).
They lasted until 2007. That's when one of the woofers went out. I was super bummed out. I really liked them. I didn't know much about speakers then, so I threw them out and bought a new pair (this time going with some Polk bookshelves - I forgot which ones now).

Those 4.2s lasted me allllllll the way through college. That says something right there - a ton of parties and late night jammin'.

Like ron31707, I believe a paid around $400. But for some reason, my memory is defaulting to $350.

I picked up a pair of 4.2 Series II speakers at a thrift a few years ago. If you put them on stands and are careful with room placement, I think you'll be pleased.
They compare very favorably to vintage 301's, which imo is one of the best in the line. They came in both black and wood/vinyl finishes.

Mine were gifted along with an early 80's yamaha receiver and stands. You did very well.
