Bryston 4B Amps

Just wondering about these Bryston amps in any incarnation. I've been using Rotel gear for years, so its is my basis point. Are Bryston amps fast and dynamic- in terms of punch and impact with music? Do they have an edgy sound that gives them away as solid state, or do they have a warmer softer presentation more like tubes? How is the soundstaging and depth to music with these amps? Speakers I have are B&W 602 S3. I may move to electrostats later like Magnepan 1.7s or similar. What are the main differences in sound between the original 4B amps and the later versions ST, SST, and SST2?

In my experience, Bryston amps are about as neutral as can be with amazing bass grip. The last two generations, ( SST and SST2 ) are far more transparent than the older versions.

I use a 4B on my tweeters, and a 4B for my woofers (and a 2B-LP for the mids) and I would agree completely with the comments of rcspkramp. I've heard the ST and SST models at demos, and they, too, are outstanding.

BTW, Magnepans are not electrostatic.

I love Bryston and I've owned lots of their equipment over the years. The amps are quite transparent and can be very punchy. I have heard that the move to the ST series is a pretty big leap forward and that kinda seems to be reflected in the pricing.

They also have an impeccable reputation as solid customer service and product support. (IMO one of the best of the business)

good amps, but i will say this: you can do better than the 4B-ST for the money and quality, it's just not exactly easy. from personal experience, the PS Audio Delta 250 monoblocks are just about the only thing that comes to mind, at least from personal experience. FWIW and IMHO, of course....

Never heard one but I asked a sound engineer once which solid state amps really sound great and he told me 'Bryston'. The only name he mentioned. So I guess if I was ever to buy a new amp...it would be a Bryston, but I'd still want to hear some different Bryston models before I bought one.

I told him what kind of sound I was looking for and he told me the same as Shawnra said above, great sound quality and punchy! Excellent. Love that punch!

Bryston's warranty and customer support is second to no one. Best warranty in audio right now. As well made and heirloom as any McIntosh. And also only McIntosh and Crown are as good about support on older gear. Worth owning. I love Bryston as well. In sound quality equally too.
