"Infinity Reference 71 mk II" That's exactly what it says, including lower case "mk".

Also says Infinity Systems, Inc. Chatsworth, CA (old Fisher facility ??)
and: "Made in Denmark Harmon Manufacturing Group"

It's a 3-way.

Any good? Worth buying? It will need tweeter(s) replaced & bass port tube.
Are these available? Expensive?

Thanks for any advice.

And, BTW, I've looked on the co. website and that of the guy who writes in German re Infinity.
Saw no match to name or photo.

Looks like a Euro-spec model that was never sold here in the U.S. I cannot tell whether the tweeter is an EMIT-r, a Polycell, or some type of small dome. The ad suggests the tweeters might be blown. It could just be fuses, if the speaker is outfitted with them. If the tweeters are blown, you'll need to budget to replace them (about $100 for EMIT-r's, up to $70 for the Polycells).

You'll also want to check the woofer surrounds...if they are dry, brittle, or cracked, they will need replacement before putting the speakers into use or you risk damaging the voice coils in the woofers.

If the tweeters are functioning and the surrounds are in decent shape, than they are probably worth $40. Otherwise, I'd hang on for something else.

BTW, questions of value belong in Dollars & Sense. I'm sure one of the mods will be along any minute now to move this thread.

If you are having trouble with pictures - go to advanced and "Manage Attachments" to upload. Make sure you are smaller than the size limit.

Regarding these Infinities - maybe? Like Tedrick says - depends on the amount of work required. But even mid-level Infinities are usually very nice :)

Tedrick--Thanks for the help. Do you mean tweets would cost me $100 EACH, or for two? Is EMIT-r a "ring radiator"??
I think you are right--Euro model. But I saw a comment on AK saying that the newer ones made by Harmon are generally garbage. Is that right? Can't find date of these.
To be a bit more specific, I agree everybody's taste is different, what I have now and am used to are AR-2ax's (and AR-4x's). I need these for another room but would not want them if they'd sound lousy compared.... (mostly classical, much vinyl, tubes).
So, how do these compare?

And, if I may very respectfully object to the police function--I have no idea how you found out that I was looking at paying $40. I did not write that. (I've TWICE checked my post--$40 ain't there.) I did ask, trying to obey the rules here, if they were worth having. I was thinking of/asking about good sound.
Looks like you searched the web, found them, and then inserted the price in your mind into my post--and then blamed me. Read my post again: No price mentioned.

But, what I do not "get" re AK is---Why so much blame game? You are the 2d one tonight who has "caught" me in a crime. This one I did not do. Other one I did not know about--and I sent a reply (which you won't see--I don't know how) wondering what the problem is.

I see from your logo (wrong word--what is it?) that you have some BEAUTIFUL Infinities. Now, how will I be happy with these? (Well, $200 is my top right now!)

Thanks again for your help.

Due to fairly strict moderator oversight, we are all a bit jumpy about how they might react to an imagined infraction. If your post is still up, it's likely OK. NEVER sweat it, just live with it and move on :(

EMIT-r is the round version of the famous EMIT tweeter.

Not all of the Harmon speakers are garbage, in fact, many of the newer models are quite good. The Primus series has been very well received by the audio press. I have a pair of Primus 360's and can vouch for their good sound. Also, the Prelude MTS was at one time considered one of the top speakers in the world.

I do not know much about the Euro-spec Infinity's, but what little I have read would suggest that most of them were pretty good.

The speakers in my avatar are RS-IIb (left) and RS-IIIb, both from the mid-1980's. To my ears, the are fantastic speakers. I prefer speakers that are accurate (no colorations) and have tight, fast, articulate bass. These speakers deliver this in spades. The EMIT tweeters are completely revealing, and will faithfully reproduce exactly what they are fed. These speakers (and those tweeters) won't do much to cover up bad recordings, but good recordings can sound amazing.
Thanks again for your help.
You are quite welcome

BTW, I did find this pic of these speakers. Looks like those might be EMIT-r's (and the price for replacements that I mentioned before was for a pair bought used off eBay).

Thank you for all the replies, and help.

Does anyone have a thought re preference of Infinity RS3001 versus Infinity Reference 71 mk II ?

And BTW, can a speaker cone with a big tear be fixed? I'm assuming it must be replaced.

Thanks for any thoughts.
