Got these last year off a chap in Brighton UK but I had to replace the foils on those Audax tweeters.
Bought them mainly judging from the quality of craftsmanship that went into them. Quality crafted rosewood cabinets with highly regarded drivers as well as what it seemed at first look a complex crossover and "T" anchored nuts throughout the speakers.
I stored them away until I'd have time to work on them and so last week I've fitted the tweeters. Took out the crossover and there it was the model number . . Chartwell PMX 410.
Did a google search on these but I can't find anything about it. Maybe it was a personal project of someone that worked for Chartwell or a prototype?!?
The front grilles are covered with bamboo rattan mesh with an under layer of cloth. Never seen rattan mesh on a speaker before but I think it looks quite exotic and cool although I'm uncertain whether this kind of material would be suitable for the job as I have a feeling that the speaker grilles were made some time after the speakers were made and they don't have the same quality to them. The edge will be fitted with some copper tile trim.
I would also like to ask if anyone is able to have a look at the crossover and tell me if they are able to tell whether the tweeter was supposed to be connected in reverse because when I've removed them I didn't pay attention when removing the first one but I noticed that the second tweeter had the black wire connected to the red terminal on the tweeter. My finger will show the wires that connect the tweeters to the crossover in the pictures below.
Last but not least what would the power rating be on these speakers?
The Seas 33 f-wka are rated 75W, the KEF B110 SP1057 are rated 150w in midrange setup and the Audax HD13D34H is rated at 70W power handling. Does this mean the speaker would average around 150 - 200W?It's important for me to know how much power they can take as those 13' Seas bass drivers seem obsolete and irreplaceable as most bass drivers are either 12 or 15'. I'd be grateful if anyone is familiar with those drivers and knows other speaker models that used it in their configuration.
