Connection for 2nd turntable

My receiver only has 1 phono input. I also have a Dynaco PAS pre-amp. Could I hook the 2nd tt into the phono input of the PAS, and connect from the tape out to an aux. input on the receiver? I think this would work, but I don't want to blow up anything.

Yes, but the signal would be 'colored' with more circuitry, first through the phono preamp of the PAS, then through preamp circuitry of the PAS, then through built-in preamp of your reciever, to the amp section of your reciever.

It would be interesting comparing the sound profile of each TT by switching between them on your reciever.

The other option is to buy a stand-alone phono preamp. I did that for connecting one to my computer. Works very well and they're not very expensive.

No.

What you say would be true has he said he was tapping the signal at the preamp output. He's not. He's tapping it at the tape monitor output.

Big difference. By tapping the signal at the tape out of the Dynaco, he avoids the "traditional" preamp section and only uses the PAS's phono stage and (passive) input selector switch.

The signal flow, in most receivers, is through the phono preamp, the input selector, and then directly to the the tape monitor output. Only after the tape monitor loop (input) returns the signal to the Dynaco (or it was bypassed to begin with) will it be passed through the "traditional" preamp stages which include volume, balance, tone controls, and various other bells and whistles.

What the OP suggested will do exactly what he wants.

Cool Hank foto, kay44tn. I have a 1950s(?) colorized 8x10 MGM promo slick using that image - cost me a whole buck at a flea market back in the '80s!
