I've looking for a high quality DAC to use with my office PC music system for upgraded sound, but I'm at a crossroads here and hope some can shed some light. My office PC is currently as follows:
PC -> external USB Soundblaster -> fiber optic out to Denon reciever with built-in DAC's.
The Denon does have some nice high quality DACS, and my music from my PC ( all FLAC ) does sound very nice. But I've been wondering if these newer DAC's with USB inputs would yeild better sound. I'm pretty sure that the DAC's in the Denon are of much higher quality than many of these Chinese DAC's that are currently flooding the market. I guess the limiting factor would be the external Soundblaster. But still, I'm only using it to convert the music to fiber output. And since it's connected to the USB port to accomplish this, keeping all files digital to the Denon, isin't this what a new DAC would do anyway? How could this Soundblast limit my performance (assuming it does)? Or does it not, and I won't gain anything because of the nicer DAC's in my Denon?:scratch2:
