Hard to find replacement capacitor

Hi, I am planning to recap a Denon PMA 560, and the two big filter capacitors are 12000uF/56V. Due to the layout and them both being really close together, the replacement capacitor must have a diameter of 30mm. Maximum length should be around 70mm. The only capacitor I've been able to find is this Cornell Dubilier. Not bad, but I'm used to have more choice :) None of the main 3 sites (Mouser, Digikey, Farnell) that deliver to Europe seem to have any other.

Is there any other place I could look for more choices? It seems like that particular combination of capacitance/voltage/diameter is not really popular!

Did you check all the options on 12000uF x 63V on Mouser?

Diameter of new capacitors is usually smaller, so usually you don't have problems fitting them, actually people gets new clamps or add rubber gaskets to fit them.

What's the size of your capacitors?

Yeah the cap I link in my post is a 12000/63V in fact. Measurements of the existing cap are 30mm x 65mm.

Try looking for higher voltages. 80v or even 100v would be ok. I had a hard time finding some 30mmx70mm caps to fit in cylindrical holes. I wound up finding the value needed in a higher voltage cap.

If the original cap is 12000uf, you can go up some in value also. As high as 15000uf should be ok. Its probably well within the tolerances of the old cap. I've done this several times without any issues.

One amplifier I have had 5500uf caps. The tolerances were -50%/+100%.
That's pretty sloppy. I put 10,000uf caps in it and it's been running just fine for 9 years now. I wouldn't suggest going up in value that much though without knowing the power supply can handle it. But using a little higher value filter cap.is pretty common when the original value in the physical size you need can't be found. Start with a search for a 13,000uf, then 15,000uf if you have to.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I’ve tried that too. I have now a mouser search with a range of 12000-30000uF and 56-160V...as soon as I put the 30mm restriction my choice is reduced to that single CDE capacitor.

Have you tried Digikey? Also try Partsconexion. I've gotten lucky with the odd cap from them before. I've used Cornell Dublier caps before. They make good caps. It's my only choice aometimes too when I'm looking for a screw top cap.

If you have that 30 mm restriction, and you found one Cornell Dubilier capacitor that fits, I'd get that one and forget about it.

Sometimes adding a particular filter in a particular order will kill your search results even though there are others that will work.

I’d click around caps that have the electrical specs you want and see what the physical sizes without using the filters.
