Doing a bit of experimentation today in preparation of the arrival of my second set of Jean-Marie Reynaud Twin MKIII Loudspeakers and the Almarro A205A integrated SET amp that BrianB was kind enough to but up for demo.
I normally drive my Reynaud Twin MKIII’s with an Antique Sound Lab AQ1001 DT Integrated Tube Amp, which is one of the best combinations you will ever hear. I decided to today to see if my little Jolida JD301A hybrid amp was up to the task. I replaced the Audio Note AX-Two speakers that the JD301A normally drives and connected up the Reynaud Twin MKIII’s. Loaded Hayden ~ Elk-Lake Serenade into my Music Hall CD-25 CDP and set back for a listen.
Well there is no doubt that the little JD301A is most certainly up to the task. It drove the Reynaud Twin MKIII’s with ease, providing a full rich sound. Not quite as sweet as the ASL AQ1001 DT, but very pleasing nonetheless. Nice full forward midrange, smooth highs and a solid bottom
Overall the Jolida JD301A and Reynaud Twin MKIII’s mate very, very well. Makes for a nice, inexpensive combination that’s great for folk, roots, Americana and alt. country tunes. Blues and Jazz would also sound outstanding on this little rig.
The AN AX-Two’s are also sounding damn fine connected to the ASL AQ1001 DT. Listening to JJ Cale ~ To Tulsa And Back as I write this. Amazing how much detail these little speaks are capable of and how full they are with an amazing degree of openness.
Think I’ll leave this setup in place for a while. At least until the second set of Reynaud Twin MKIII’s and the demo Almarro A205A arrive. Everything will get shuffled around again then.
Damn this is fun !!!!!!
