Help me choose - a Harman/Kardon HK 730 or HK 930

Well it’s a year later but I must respond, 2 years ago I found a 930 via E Bay that was totally refurbished by a reliable source and purchased it along with a wood cover. Beautiful. I alternated ADS 701,s and Polk 3.1 tl’s. The ADS sounds very good indeed but the Polk’s were fabulous and I was surprised as I didn’t think the 48 wpc would suffice…. they did. A refurbished 930 is a dream.

I have a 730 that Doug Lucy went through for me several years ago. It sounds great, though I don't use the tuner or phono sections much (it's in my office/den system.) It has some cosmetic damage to the faceplate and no wood case, but I doubt that matters unless I tried to sell it. I don't plan to.

Having owned both of these models, still having the 930 in the cabinet.

Like the speaker connections on the 730 better then on the 930. Not enough to keep over the 930 it seems.

If any are faced with this decision and the performance is the same go for best physical condition.

Really hard to tell the differences between the two IMHO. The appearance for me has the 930 winning out.

I bought a HK730 from GW last year and am glad I did. I can't comment on how good the tuner is, but the phono section is tops.
I just picked up a 730 today in pretty good nick. It sounds nice. My other two receivers are a Yamaha 1020 and a Sansui 771...not nearly as good tuner-wise.

I have this 730 that was fully restored earlier this year and I had the speaker connections upgraded so I can use banana plugs to hook up my ADS L980/2's.

After being restored my 730 bench tested at a full 54 watts before clipping, that's plenty of power for my space and speakers.

I bough a 430 last week and it's about to be fully restored and upgraded by the same gentleman that worked on my 730... I have a set of ADS 570/2's set aside for the 430. I am sure a 930 would be extremely nice, especially after a full restoration with upgrades so I am casually searching for one locally, but I am not sure it would shine that much brighter than my 730.

I have 430 and 730 have been recapped. I like your speaker plugs! I will do it for mine. May I ask of what new transistors you sub for? I put in 1220/2690 but currently I have the problem on one channel.
