the 1500 if I remember correctly has a vinyl covered cabinet that is not as thick or well built as the 100's real wood veneer cabinet.

The 100 is a 12" woofer in a cabinet of roughly 15.5" X 15.5" X 26" at 58 lbs

the 1500 is a 15.75" woofer in a cabinet of roughly 17.5 X 12.5 X 39.75" at 83lbs

Two very different critters

I will say there is a big difference. Ok, fine, I havent heard the 1500, but I had 100 before, and have 150 and 1100 now. I guess 150/1500 are quite similar. One thing is, theres loads of 100's almost everywhere, while the 150/1500 are more rare. If u like 100, u will love 150/1500. It sure is, and sounds like a bigger 100, but theres more to it than just bigger. With its 15'' bass and 360 degrees tophat supertweeter, and slightly different mid/tweets, it sounds not only more powerful/mighty but also much more refined. Big HPM's are expensive here in Norway, so 1000 $ is like a run-and-buy price for us here.

Ur right, Mark. 1500 is vinylcovered, while 100/150/1100 is real wood veneer.
150 is in one-piece, and 1500 is in two sections.
Edit: I still miss my old 100's and most likely, I will get another set.

I just refoamed a pair of 1100s and have to say that they are quite impressive sounding (also larger) compared to anything else I own. Since you have more experience with HPMs in general, how do you stack the 1100s with the rest of them.

Thanks

Actually, I have 5 sets of speakers, but for now am living with wife and kid in a quite small apartment. The wife has this misunderstanding; the listeningroom should also work as a livingroom! So I can only use one set at the time. ( Speakers, not wifes, hehehe ) Hopefully, there are better times to come, wer lookin' for a bigger place in a near future, with a dedicated stereoroom. About 1100's, I agree with u. They are impressive, and have less vintage sound than 150's. They are tuned to more modern music/recordings.
Edit: Both my HPM sets are in almost perfect shape, the 150's are refoamed and 1100's has new rubber surroundings, probably more long-life.

hpm vs hpm

difference between hpm-150 and 1500 is the 1500 is a two piece - made it easier to ship them.
Hpm100 diff - obviously a bigger woofer. The mid range and tweeters were the same, but then it added the 360 degree glass super tweeter on top.

I do not know if there is a difference in the crossover, but I am pretty sure it is the same as they use the same mid and tweeter.

never heard them side by side. i own the HPM100. would love to have the 1500 for nostalgia sakes as had a pair in 79 in Germany. Plus,I doubt i could even hear it now, but the glass tweeter looks cool as heck
