iPod replacement with good quality DAC?

I'm looking to replace my aging 3rd Gen iPod. I need to know of a good mp3 player to replace it with. I really like the iPod because it has a really DAC and I've dealt with bad DACs(my laptop have a horrible DACs) and the sound is just unbearable. All the noise coming through my Klipsch seems cruel.
Are the current iPod's as good quality, or are there others that are better?
I'd prefer not to go with another Apple product, I just don't like Apple.:thumbsdn:

I have only heard about improvements to iPod DAC and output hardware, but I don't know much about them. This is supposed to come out this summer: http://littledot.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=941&sid=1a99ea3b53e68267f0ac81a58b262ed1
I am very happy with my iPods, but I am a fan of Little Dot, so I do find this player interesting. I will be looking for the reviews.

The best sounding player out now is supposed to be the HiFiMan, but I have never heard it. Sanza, Cowon, and others also have a lot of fans. I have a Sanza Fuze and it sounds decent with Flac files, but I haven't compared it side by side with my iPods.

Thanks for the input.
The more I think about it and research it, I'm liking getting a 2g Touch(great deal on a used one) It uses the older Wolfson DAC which is the same as my iPod.
My old iPod will most likely be stationed permanently at my main system, so the new one only really needs to sound good with headphones or in the car.

Also, uofmTiger, I like the name. I'm going to be an undergrad the U of M next year.

That dock makes me happy. I think I might just be getting one soon, sure as hell will beat the line out from the dock connector.

A Manley Labs Stingray iTube is a nice iPod dock...
