is Empire 888-PE cartridge any good?

empire 888-pe came with TT i bought recently and the stylus is in no shape for any record. i saw a replacement stylus for over $20, but wanted to make sure before i buy that this cart is decent. anyone had experience or info? thank you.

While I've never had any experience with this particular cartridge, I have had Empires and liked them. The original needle is a .2x.7mil elliptical which is very good. For that price I'd try it.

On mine, the 25+ yo stylus has a horribly oxidized cantilever but still sounds very good. I have had less luck with replacement styli designed to fit the 888 however (NOS or otherwise). Hence looking for a second 888 for comparison testing.

I have been told that the ADC (K8, QLM series?) used the same or similar internal construction. That may be a (weak) basis for some comparison.

If anyone knows what spec'd the PE version (as opposed to the E or other versions of the 888) please post...
