Very flat speaker, excellent monitor. The 035Ti tweeter is the early version w/o the piercing, and will need foam (behind the dome for damping) by now. Woofers are doped cloth surrounds, if kept soft and supple should be good for many years. Available with walnut veneer or black painted cabinets.

They are a fine speaker, a bit bright however. Unlike the previous monitors these were not "voiced" to be like the ALTEC monitors of yesteryear but intended to be flat. It is my experience that they can be a bit fatiguing on some amps/sources from the era, definitely a very fun and durable rock speaker though.

I have an early pair and really like them but they are too bright for my ears. I may try them with tubes later on to see if that helps.

Very helpful, thanks so much for that knowledgeable response.

I have a mint pair in my collection.
They are very popular, I liked the bass response they left rotation pretty quickly but for 1 reason only.
I have a lot of sets that are several steps above them.
If they were my only jbl, I would be happy with them.

Great to hear from an owner and fan, thanks for you input.

4 pair is likely from a professional installation, many of those are the black (with big JBL on the sides) cabinet with mounting holes in the cabinets. Hopefully they will come with grilles.

I have been a fan of JBL near/midfield monitors in the past, a small part of the collection:

Nice collection. I'm curious about your experience with the 4312A compared to the 4412A, since it looks like you have both. I had a chance to compare my 4412 (non-A) to a pair of 4312A speakers a while back and the sound had considerable differences. You described the 4312A as being very flat. I would have described the 4412 as being the more flat of the two, with the 4312A not being nearly as flat, but more flat than the older paper-cone-tweeter 4310/4311 variants at least.

I'm very interested in the comparison because the 4312A, in addition to my 4412 and L100T speakers, all have the same tweeter (035Ti) and the same midrange (104h-2/104h-3), but vastly different crossover frequencies. The crossover frequencies of the 4412 and the L100T are identical at 800Hz & 4.5kHz. The crossover frequencies of the 4312A are 1.5kHz and 7kHz! I don't recall any other speaker that runs the 104h-2 or 104h-3 all the way up to 7kHz. That certainly doesn't leave a lot for the 035Ti to do. 1.5kHz seems a bit on the high side for the woofer/mid crossover also.

The 4312A is a very flat speaker, we’ve measured it, it is. The biggest difference to me is that the 4412A has a much more evolved crossover, which gives it much improved imaging. Yes the speaker is better, but the cabinet was IMO a downgrade, how the drivers are held in, no veneer version available, and the cheap-crappy grille frame that is almost always broken or missing by now.

The 4312A is nicer to look at and a better built cabinet, the 4412A a more accurate and better imaging speaker. My opinion/experience.
