Klipsch KG-4 or Polk Monitor 10s ?

I have the opportunity to buy Klipsch KG-4 and Polk Monitor 10. Both are in condition. Polk 10s are the non A or B model with either SL2000 or SL2500 tweeter.. not sure.

Both are priced the same.

I got a few vintage amps to put them against and a few placement options as well.

Which one would you pick? :scratch2:

Going by "house sound", Klipsch if a rocker or band music type, Polk for jazz/classical/ critical listening.

I don't know.
I had both and like both but didn't love either one.
Klipsch is little forward while M10's are little laid back.
I'd lean towards M10's though.

I have owned both and IMO you really can't go wrong with either one. I think the KG's were a little more versatile with different types of music but the Polks are easier to get it right in a room without any real tinkering with placement (assuming you have stands).
Both of my KG's and 10's had the original caps so I may not have been getting the best SQ either had to offer. There are upgrades to the tweeter for both but I think it's easier to upgrade the KG's than the Polks if you think you will be upgrading them in the future.
Good luck on making a tough choice!

I've owned both and prefer the KG4. Also, for what it's worth, I'm not a rocker. I listen to mostly jazz and but also blues and a smattering of everything else. I don't buy into the theory that Klipsch are a R&R speaker.

My refurbished 10B;s are good with pretty nearly everything I listen to, and I listen to just about everything. The only short coming the 10B's have is they really will get down to 25Hz but below about 60Hz the two 6 1/2 inch midwoofers that power the passive radiator run out of steam to do it and there is little control and things get ragged that is mostly with pedal notes on large pipe organs and they a booger for any such speaker to reproduce. The 10B's to my ears are very versatile.

Have had both, still have the Monitor 10B's. The KG4, though a very nice speaker, made me realize I am not a fan of horns. Have a listen to decide.

Did this comparison a few years ago with me and several other listeners. All agreed Klipsch KG4 won hands down.

Thanks for all the input.

The Polk seller had KG4s as well...talk about coincidence!

Polks sounded more laid back, KGs were more open with upfront sound, esp in higher freq. pretty much how it was described in the thread.

KG4 sounded a bit similar to the Advent so to try a different sound, I got Polk.

I have to say that I got lucky with my first two speakers, Advent Large and Dahlquist DQ-10. DQ-10 are in a diff league but Advent is more comparable. I'm excited to try some stacking options with Advents, Nova 8B and Polk Monitor 10...who knows, KG4 might be added if the price is right :)

Between those two, easy choice. Polk Monitor 10.

Used to own the 10B back in high school. Fun speaker and one that's easy to listen to with all different genres.

Have heard the whole Klipsch legacy line and just not a fan of any of them.

I've got a pair of M10a's that do garage duty at my best friends house and they've been recapped with the stock SL2000 tweeters. For that big of an area, they do a great job. I've owned KG4's years ago and do prefer them over the Polks but I do like horn speakers too. (Currently own Klipsch CF-3's and KLF-30's and have owned Khorns, Heresy's and LaScala's) Different representations and both do what they do well with their cabinet sizes.
