Little score. Sort of.

I went to answer an ad about a silver-faced wooden Technics receiver today - nothing special really, but need something for the garage. Only £8 ($16), so I couldn't resist, and local too.

The guy showed me the little thing, and it all worked brilliantly. Then I realised I only had a £10 note, and hoped he had change. He didn't. But he said "Tell you what...I've got this old turntable you can have for that extra £2 though", and walked in with a Garrard SP25 MK IV. Not bad! (I already have an SP25, but hey, for £2...)

However, it gets better. As I got into my car and started the engine, he ran out and tapped on the back window. He asked if I'd like a few old records for nothing, as now all he used was CDs. Well...I'm not one to turn down a freebie - and this "few" records turned out to about a hundred of 'em.

I got this haul home and the Garrard is in perfect condition with what looks like a new Shure 3X cartridge. Around half the records are classical, which I will probably Freecycle as I'm not into that, but the rest are country, jazz, acoustic guitar and a bit of pop. And...every single one is in perfect condition! (well, apart from a "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" single which had been played hundreds of times). A box set of Mozart still had the seal - it had never been opened.

Now, if anyone in the UK wants some classical records for free...
