Lot's of background noise........

Dave Bowman

It's a way of life!
I just finished doing some tweaks on my Thorens 145, replacing the TP-16 with a SME 309.
Since the upgrade (using the same cart) I've noticed a lot more background noise than with the TP-16. The carts a Shure V15 type3 RS with a straight cantilever and the rock looks low hours under the scope..........
My tech set the VTF and put the weight to 1.5 grams, I'm a novice, so what to do? buy a gauge and set the weight? if so, what? the heaver the mass the quieter the background?

Like I said, novice, but learning..............

Please pipe in...............

All things being equal then therein lies a problem with the arm change ??

Assuming there is not a compliance issue, recheck azimuth, VTA and VTF, in that order.
