"Mute" Function but no Button on Device...One Solution.

I'm very happy with my new-to-me Yamaha CX-830 Control Amplifier. I was able to get the fancy remote for it.
I did notice a subtle difference in my remote vs. the one in the manual. The remote I got indicates "RX-830" on the front and there is a "Sleep" button where the "Mute" button should be.

Good thing is that my CX-830 is not in mute mode, but I would like to use that mode.

This is what I did:

I found a VIZIO Universal Remote my wife bought a long time ago for the TV/Cable box. I found the instructions and it had some codes for Yamaha Audio equipment. This actually worked. I got the VIZIO Universal Remote to control the CX-830...including the "Mute" function!

From here I used the VIZIO as a master to program that "Mute" code into one of the blank keys on the "RX-830" controller. Worked great!

I've been wanting one of those myself for a while. They seem to have a ton of flexibility with the variable turnover on the tone controls.

Yes, with that function and the loudness control, I was really able to get my 4311b tuned it just right for my listening volume (somewhat low).

The bass control will switch between 0.05uf and 0.1uf, while the treble control will switch between 0.012uf and 0.024 uf. They are useful controls, they make a very audible difference when the tone controls are engaged.
