MX-110 faceplate removal process

Ok -- so to change out the nearly dead festoon bulbs with LEDs, it appears from that thread that the bottom cover and the inspection cover both have to come off in order to remove the faceplate. Odd that McIntosh made it so difficult and required the bottom cover to be removed just to take off the faceplate...

The faceplate comes off as an assembly. Remove the inspection cover (on the top) and bottom cover and you will find the screws that attach the faceplate assembly to the chassis. Remove those, and all of the knobs and one can carefully slide the faceplate off. From there, it needs to be disassembled (remove the end caps first) so that one can remove and replace the glass.

The knob shafts for the secondary (top) pots are not flatted (ie, "D" shafts) which makes the job of correctly repositioning the knob markings somewhat more difficult as well.

I just did this for my MX110 Z unit to change the front lights.

I suggest removing the top and bottom covers completely. The top cover requires removing the gain knobs. These are not indexed so take note of how you have them before removing, all mine are turned all the way up and clocked to about 4:30 or 135 degrees from vertical. You don't need to remove the small pan head screws on the top and bottom of the face plate or the tiny ones facing the sides of the bezel. Just the stainless 1/4" hex head slotted screws.

You might be able to get away with removing the front most screws on the bottom and sides then loosening the next row of bottom screws back from there.
