My "new" Yamaha's

I started writing a long post about the last 15 years of my life and it even bored me so I'll try to keep this short.
I just bought a very nice Yamaha CA-600 from fellow AKer DCinDC and having no experience with Yamaha I was so happy when I got it I still haven't been able to slow down. He shipped it to me quick and well packed and I am really glad I spotted that amp when he first listed it. From his description I wasn't expecting it to be perfect but it's close to it. It looks great and sounds even better. Thanks Dave!
The reason I was looking for a Yamaha amp is because I just took a chance on epay for a Yamaha CT-800 tuner. Well, I ended up getting both on the same day so I got to hook them up for the test. WOW!
Now, I have to say that my speakers are not the greatest things in the world or even close but I had no idea of just how good they would sound. They're the reason I found this forum in the first place. I had no idea what they were so I clicked on this site, quite some time ago, and found a few threads about them. They are Magnavox S073's and hooked to these Yamaha's they sound preety damn good. I was running them on a Fisher RS-911 and didn't think too much of them but these Yamaha's make them sound much better.
Anyway, Dave told me the power light was out on the amp and I will get to that in do time. I've already downloaded the owners manual for it and will get the service manual soon but what I'm having trouble finding is either manual for the tuner. It wasn't exactly as described! It's close though. The meter lights don't work nor does the light for tuning. I also have to clean and lube the pots. They aren't bad but are a little stiff. I sure could use the owners manual and service manual for the CT-800 though. I can find stuff for the CT-600 but nothing for the 800 and they are somewhat different.
I now see why so many people like this Yamaha sound. I've got a couple Cerwin Vega AT-15's in storage at my brothers pole barn but one has the paper kicked in on the woofer. That was courtesy of an ex-girlfriend's teenage son. Not thew kids fault, he never had a proper upbringing. I am a little concerned about running those 4 ohm Cerwin Vega's with this amp.
The reason I started getting back in to music was because a friend gave me an old Dynaco Stereo 120 and I bought a Dynaco FM-5 to go with it only to find out the amp needs some work, I think. But, that's another story.
One more thing to get for the Yamaha's, a turntable. I'd really like to get a Yamaha but they seem to be rare and when I do find one it doesn't look very good. Maybe people are keeping them, I don't know. Maybe I'm just too anxsious, that's more like it.
Well, so much for keeping it short! I'm going to try to put some pics in this post. I've only done this once and had a heck of a time so please bare with me if I don't succeed the first time.
If anyone manages to get through all this, thank you.
Al

Nice duo of Yamaha there. I have seen those maganvox speakers out there from time to time but never have had a chance to audition a pair. I would think they could be pretty good. Nice setup!

Thank you. I'm going to refinish those speakers this winter. They're pretty solid and I think they will look pretty nice when I get them done.

Welcome to AK! You live in a good area when it comes to old gear. ( Lots of old hand AKers about.) Enjoy!

Don't worry much about getting a Yamaha TT yet, just find something good that's in your budget sooner, and keep your eye out for the Yamaha you'd like down the road.

hey good on ya Eh!

nice looking setup you've got there and I'm sure your well on your way. those old yammy components are the cats ass as far as I'm concerned. you probably wouldn't have any trouble with the CerwinVegas once you fix them. most of their speakers are a bit more sensitive then average and don't gobble tons of power to produce a decent volume. although at 4 ohms I would try to keep the air vents on top of the integrated amp open to good air circulation.

I think you're right Sleep, I need a turntable soon. It's almost like being hungry. I've seen a few that looked nice so I'm going to try to get one in the next couple weeks.

I was wondering about that amp shawnra and if I should put it on top of the tuner. Where it is sitting is only temporary and was only put there to hook it up and take the pics but It's so heavy I don't know if I should put it on top of the tuner. I really don't have the space to put them side by side. The air vents are a concern though.

Congrates :) You got some nice stuff going there. I would move the amp to ontop of the tuner. It will need good airflow, which will be hard to get under the tuner. Welcome to AK

Thank you all for the info.
I really thought the tuner was supposed to sit on top of the amp but I have no idea why I would think such a thing except to say that the amp is much heavier than the tuner. I will certainly take the advice of both of you (shawnra, kermit z) and make sure that amp gets all the air it needs.
I really love the looks of these Yamaha's and am so glad that all the things I've read about the sound of these thing's are true. They really do sound nice. Turning the base up, just one click, makes these old speakers sound like I never dreamed they could.

CA-800

The problem with sitting the tuner atop the amp is the heat from the amp will influence the tuner's tuning; the problem with the alternate arrangement is the weight differential, as you noted. Best to have them side by side or on separate shelves with adequate ventilation space in between.

The CA-800 is a fine sounding amplifier by any reasonable standard (then or now); the CT-800 is also reputed to be quite good... but I cannot recall ever actually hearing one.

Beautiful Yamaha gear. That first CA/CT series will never go out of style both from a looks and performance standpoint. Enjoy.

Yeah mhardy6647, that sounds like the thing to do, sitting them side by side or on shelves. That would solve any problems if I can just find the room.
Hey, thanks rcspkramp and mhardy, I just can't get over how nice looking this pair is.
