First off, if you have never heard a Mach One tweeter your missing out as it sounds wonderful. I was very impressed the second I put sound to the speaker. Clean and snappy come to mind as a good description.

Yes there is a Polk tweeter. The original put out the sound but was very forward and fatigueing. Put it this way if you were twenty feet away you would know it's there. The cross over point is 5k so put what you want in it and an spl rating you think you need. These polks are sl 5000. When I put them in, the speaker just disappeared and you know where the sound originates from but you don't reallly hear the speaker as a whole per se. They are very nice to say the least.
Super tweets are not used the extra power available from disconnecting them boosted the Polk to almost perfect spl but I do boost the treble on the system a bit which I like. I cannot hear past 12-13 k so no need for the super tweeters but my son who is 17 said they sounded fine and did work.

Interesting to know and understand about this speaker is one, the woofer has a high crossover point 2K which puts it in a different spectrum of what most other speakers are like at 5,6,7 hundred crossover points. Put it this way a guitar of any type sounds like the big guitar speaker is right there with you which is pretty cool and sounds completely accurate. 2 The midrange driver will play what ever is preasant and is pretty much perfect.

The combination above makes for a very transparent speaker. The sound stage is a mile wide and the sound seems to originate from a foot or two in front of the enclosure right up to your face. They would certainly would be labeled bright but that is good as I want a speaker that can versus one that can't. They will produce all sound perfectly including crap you don't want to hear.
I have to tone them down on crappy noisy music where it seams like fifty things are going on in the mid range and none of it is good.
Remember the oddity to these are the 2K crossover point which is not the norm but lends to the transparency of the sound signature. I appreciate what they have to offer.
The woofers are great and fast and seam to laugh at my 100 wpc system as does the speaker as a whole. I would say it's linear point is 30 watts or so and the character doesn't change up to the 100 wpc I have. At low listening levels in a quiet room they sound like headphones at time. Yes I love these a lot.

I have been beating on the Mach one to loosen them up from a long time sitting.. cant say yet if the polk tweeters are more, or less or equal with the Mach tweeters but boy you need to hear them, clean clean clean, its so fun when you discover a little gem when you don't expect it. I see two used Mac one tweeters in my future to keep in my Arsenal.

Hi
I recently came across a set of Sansui pm-c100 speakers. I agree with your opinion on the original tweeter, was wondering if you’re had to do any mods to the cabinet or crossover to make the Polk 5000 work ?

Ya, I found the tweeters to seem to play all the notes but sort of shoot you in the face with them instead of dispersing them. The tricky part is the is the spacing of the screw holes on the polks are just inside the diameter of the factory holes so there is not enough meat to screw into the cabinet. Not sure if you are familiar with car stuff but in doors typically they can have plastic square inserts that pop in the door sheet metal that will take a screw this is also common on license plates. I got some small ones to work with the screws I was using and with a small notch on the factory cut out was able to grab a little over half the surface of the plastic nut piece. Or if you have some flat type speed nuts/clips that come with car speakers or something you could use them to. The tweeters totally transformed them in to a very open 3 d like sound. Still a little bright but that’s what tone controls are for. I would rather turn a speaker that can down a little then have one that can’t in my opinion. Some people seem to like a more flat type speaker but I enjoy The livelyness of these with the different tweeter. I thoroughly enjoy mine and the things they can do very well. They can sound like a 3 d concert in your room and disappear compared to they laid back sound of a let’s say a 3 way ADS which sound good yet totally different and laid back. It’s all in what you like and want to hear.

I can say I don’t have the power to test the 260 watt claim but I do know they will gobble up 100 watts without any issues and the woofer at that lever will pump out what you want to hear without any stress and do it quite well. I have run them for extended periods with the port plugged with a sock and open. There is some difference but not a ton. Again open or closed it’s all about what you want to hear. I still play with both ways after having them for years and still haven’t figured out what I like better. There is a difference but it’s not huge enough to pick one after all these years.

Oh I did hook the super tweeters back up. Even though with test tones I supposedly can’t hear above 12k or so apparently as many have found out you still kind of do as you can hear the difference while listening to music. Strange

Update on this thread. I started doing the upgrades on the Mach ones. I did some on one of them but was to sick with my Lyme disease at the time to play with them anymore and gave them a home to someone on here at a frankinfest.

I have a Gen-2 Set Liquid Cooled Mach One's I purchased New in 1983...
I thought I read somewhere that the Tweeters & Mid-ranges need work being rebuilt...
Are you familiar with the procedure ?

There are a few threads on the Mach one by someone called video lady I think it was that was doing upgrades and testing the results. It’s an extensive thread. Should be able to find it easy by maybe searching Mach I upgrades.
