"New DLK 1-1/2"--diff from original?

Hi folks, first post -- does anyone have any insight into the differences between the original DLK 1-1/2 and the "NEW" model that I have? Pic of the specs included. Got these at a thrift; are they an improvement on the originals? Or a diminishment? Would any additional photos help? (sorry for the repeat photos -- didn't know they were taking and I don't know how to get rid of the copies)

Mine were 4ohm, did not have whizzer cones, and had a phenolic ring tweeter. You have a Phillips Tweeter.

Thanks, jcamero. These are 4 ohm too...how do you evaluate the changes? Are they improvements over what was available for the original version? From the literally nothing I know, it seems that some folks think they are...but I'm only inferring...

Can't give an evaluation, I sold off my pair years ago. By experience, the Phillips Tweeter should be a great improvement though.

Would any additional photos help?

How about a close-up of the tweeter? It looks like the tweeters were replaced? A higher res (in-focus) photo of the spec sheet would also be helpful.

Are there any dates on the speakers? I'm curious what the "new" in the speaker description means (i.e. early/first generation or later/significant evolution). My understanding was that DLK changed the name from "1 1/2" to "1.5" as the product line evolved (I could be wrong about this).

I don't think any of thoes drivers are original. The tweeter should be the famous peerless tweeter used in early polk speakers as well as many others, the original screw holes are visable. If I remember correctly the woofers had dlk on the domes also.

I agree. Local liquor store have a pair that are all original.

There is a 3rd version called new 1 1/2 with the peerless dome tweeter. The only photo I could find was an ebay completed listing that I wasn't able to borrow the photo from.

Yes, I see it now. I can see where the different tweeters were substituted out for the ones in the bay listing -- I think one of the photos I posted shows the rectangular holes.

So the tweeter might be a Philips tweeter...and different woofers...I wonder if the person who sold them just used the DLK cabinet, which is nice walnut veneer...I'll take closeups and post them.

I think if you pull the drivers you will find the tweeter is not a Philips but a Realistic dome tweeter from Radio Shack. I'm betting the whizzer cone woofers are also from Radio Shack.

Jim you WIN!! *Exactly* what they were. So the mystery is solved--the person who sold them just used the cabinet. AND thanks to showett for the visual record of the "New 1-1/2"s vs the original. Thank you all so much!

Let me jump in to add some information. There are, at least, three different generations of DLK 1 1/2. First and second gen all have phenolic ring tweeters (some are uncovered and some are covered and protected by a metalic grill). The third generation is the definite one, "New DLK 1 1/2". It has big soft dome tweeters (they are supposed to be the famous Peerless tweeters but some people claim they are Pioneer), an improvement from previous generations. The New DLK 1 1/2 are hard to find; the common ones are the first and second gen DLK 1 1/2 with phenolic ring tweeters.

DLK also installed smaller Peerless dome tweeters in their impressive DLK Modular 1s, which I have seen two different versions of.

Regarding woofers for the 1 1/2, they sometimes come with the DLK logo in them and sometimes they don't. During the production of the DLK 1 1/2 they installed green, gray, white and purple looking woofers. All were original and some didn't have the logo in them.

None of the pictures posted in this thread show the New DLK 1 1/2 (OP's picture has replacement woofers and tweeters), so I am going to add a picture just for reference:

Thank you for posting this. I have the exact same speakers as the OP, but I've never seen any that actually look like them until I saw this post. Curious, since woofers and tweeters have been replaced, is there a way to tell what generation I have?
