banging through drywall
Lately, for a change of pace, I have been listening to my headphones and IEM, $60 and $25 respectively, through a $40 DVD player. I love this little DVD player because it has a remote but that is neither here nor there. My point is that the quality if this little system at $75 to $100 is wonderful. It sounds really damn fine.
Across the room my $5,000 plus system is on the bench so to speak. It's a good thing I can tell you guys this cause I'm certainly not going to tell my wife.

Just think how much goes into upgrading that $100 system.

C'mon, there's a big difference between headphones and a room filling system.

What are the cans and the DVD player? I've tossed around the idea about another pair of IEMs but I can't make up my mind.

You guys are missing the point. I never said my little headphone system sounds like or rivals my main system. I did say it sounds damn good for the money invested. I thought I said this with a sense of humor. Apparently not.

The headphones are Sennheiser HD 448, earphones ATH CKM50s and the DVD is a TruTech. :D

My brother bought a CD player from a 'dollar store'.

It sounded really great for $15. I was pretty amazed really. Think I'll get one for an extra portable CD player for the bedroom Sony and the Hitachi mini componet system.

It would be great for testing equipment as well.

Never tell the wife 'anything' if it has "ANYTHING" to do with stereos or music. If I order music or buy something, I just buy it and make sure I get to the VISA card statement 'first', then just pay it. haha. In fact, never tell the wife anything, period. Just 'buy it', or 'do it', and 'never ever mention it'. I hear ya. Telling the wife anything about anything will just 'set her off'. Just the way it is, especially when it comes to music or stereos.

I'm in the 'process' of getting a speaker restoration project going. I'm just going to buy the caps, gear, etc., and not say a thing. When everything is spread out all over the place, and the work commences, and if she asks, I just tell her I've had all this ' junk ' for a long time and I'm just getting around to doing the job right now. Keep the Peace. Peace Brother, it's the easiest way.

"Oh, those speakers sound good now for some reason??" I'll just tell her it's the humidity. LOL.

Never mention anything...it's just 'ammo for their minds' and you will hear about it immediately, then very soon again, then later, then again many times years from now. It never ends. Something's wrong with the house...don't mention it. Just fix it.

I can agree with you. I have spent more than I ever thought on my main system and love how it sounds. Recently I threw together an old DVD player, a much older onkyo receiver and some towers in a small carpeted spare room just for fun and was blown what I heard. Agreed that it didn't come close, but that wasn't your point. It was kind of a kicker (which is your point) that you can get great enjoyment from any setup without having to spend thousands. Keep enjoying

Ha ha. Hilarious. I will say I don't hide what I pay for my addiction from my wife. Until this week when I walked in with an 80 dollar piece of yellow plastic to wash my records with. Yup. How do you explain spending that?

"I found this at a garage sale and it cost $2.50!! It's worth $80!!" :thmbsp: haha. "That's a really great deal because I can REALLY use THIS like ALL THE TIME!!"

And just hope the $2.50 just get's stuck in her head. :D

Or just tell 'them' you've always had that in the closet. It's just time to use it 'again' now. Then pretend that your having a hard time to remember how it works and your really not looking forward to doing all this WORK!. LOL :>)

She will analyze the situation, then she knows she has no idea how to do it or what is going on, then she will walk away! Success. haha.

If she doesn't walk away, just ask her if she can help you clean all these records...she will walk away 'immediately'! Problem solved.

Works for me...Usually.

Just out of curiosity... Have you incorporated the magic audio stones in to this new system?:scratch2:

No, but thanks for the reminder. I'm sure I have another one, [or fifty], out in the garage. I can wait to hear the improvement!

I wish I was that quick. I put it on the table (in box) along with 25 new inner sleeves and 2 new vinyls. LOL. with price tags on them both equalling more than the damn cleaner..... She just looked at the records and said who the hell is Steely Dan????::banana: Didn't even look at the price. HA HA

I know a guy who has a $275,000 stereo sound system, and he is crying almost every time he listen to it.

Then my sister has a $20 portable CD player, and she is smiling all the time.

:)

Ross, I know where you're coming from. I've spent a fair (for me) amount of both time, money, blood, sweat and tears on my signature system. So what do I listen to every single day? My $40 Philips ViBE mp3 player with the cheap OEM earbuds. :music: I love how it sounds.

Who is Steely Dan???

Is she into Country music or something?

:D

Believe it or not, I've met younger folks who had never even heard of Led Zeppellin. How can that possibly be???
