Cool, looks good. Have you given it any operational tests on known nasty records to see how well it does ?

Nope

Believe it or not...not yet..lol...I spent most of this weekend getting it done....seemed like every time I was close, there was one more issue or mod...and I just needed to call it quits...so tested the mechanics, electrical, took some pictures and now my A$$ is planted for a relaxed evening...

But i;ll post tomorrow the test results...I have a box of "send to goodwill" albums because of snap crackle pop scratch or just don't like to test a few on before I move to my good vinyl...:D

I saved alot over a VPI but if I had to do again..hmmm...yeah..i'd still do it :thmbsp:

No

so this is just a dry cleaning machine?

No...Its the same as a VPI ...wet and then vacuum the grooves clean of all dirt...

Wow...I did try my handywork just now on an albums. I have a solution of of 1 part denatured alchohol to 5 parts water and a couple of drops of dawn in a mix bottle. Sprayed on, wiped with a nice brush I also bought with the VPI wand and then let may machine at it..I SAW the sludge (brown) get sucked up the tube and the record was left AWESOME.

Played...not a pop or crackle...you know the quiet lead in where you would hear a few ? NOTHING...

If you haven;t done so..BUILD one...worth it.

Wow, dude! I am supremely-impressed. That thing's awesome. You built a VPI 16.5, right? Total cost?

Yup

Yes, just like it..slightly bigger. I had to accomodate the 14.5 inch tall vacuum. Total cost was just under $150...but $69.99 of that was the authentic VPI wand kit I bought at ELUSIVE DISK

The only parts I used that we old (free) was a platter and the ice cream motor. All the rest I purchased and I probably could have shaved another $20 off the cost (shopping around instead of home depot, didn't need the speed control, I bought more MDF boards than needed, etc.)

The full build is in DIY fourm...but I tell you...Its pretty easy. And the net results is awesome. The hardest part (and everyone runs into this) is the shaft and designing an easy one. I lucked out being able to use 1/2 PVC ...

And JB weld is AWESOME...LOL

Thats pretty sweet, how do you clean the wand? does the sludge from the records harden onto it?

First thanks to all..I just did the work..it was YOU Ak'ers who supplied the no how, help, enocuragement, ideas...I love you man..LOL

As to teh wand..I have no friggin idea..I am sure its cleanable and eventually have to replace but dont think that will be for a while

Again my thanks to all...:-)

If your only using one wand and a rinse step, the rinse should clear out the wand. I do a 3 step cleaning and have 3 wands, one for each step. Once my wands appear to be a bit dirty, I just run some clean hot water through them, cleans em up okay. I also use a baby bottle cleaner to get inside them if there is some stubborn dirt stuck inside. They work great.

Thanks

Thats great information to know ! I sort of figured I could clean them sort of like I do my spin clean brushes. Whenever I am done with the spin clean, I was the brushes as they say, squeeze them out and let dry thoroughly...I must say on my record cleaning machine, the formula I found works great - 1 part denatured alcohol, 6 parts water and a few drops of dishwashing liquid. I get no residue and I guess because of the alcohol and the vacuum, they come off dry ! Maybe a slight dampness at the edge of the label ..

My only issue ? Lint free clothes that have lint...uggg...I have a new pack I bought from spin clean and they are great for that use (wet) but on a dry album after my RCM, I always find a few bits of dust...No..lets not start a thread on TRULY LINT FREE CLOTHES or I will be buying again...:D
