One Ring to Rule Them All

As I am getting ready to cut the proverbial cord, I have been looking around and have found lots of options to do one thing or the other. My goal is to have a single box and common UI for playing most/all content, Amazon, OTA DVR, Netflix, Hulu+, Vudu, etc. Unfortunately, I'm thinking that this is the Holy Grail that may not yet exist. I also want to be able to easily get all of this content on the other TV's in the house. I have a couple of Roku boxes already, but if they need to go away, it would not upset me.

I am starting from scratch and have no preconceived options as what works best. I am looking for suggestions, advice etc., just please no apple products (that’s a story for another bottle of Scotch).

Thanks

I have not looked in-depth at HTPC setups, but in looking at Roku, WDTV, etc., it seemed there was no one box that does it all. They all have many, actually most, things in common but it always seems like there are one or two differentiating items that preclude the elusive one box solution.

All of this technology and the numerous services come and go so quickly that I don't think any company wants to stick their noses out and make such a thing. Good luck to you.

Thanks for all of the reply's y'all. Someone on Google pointed me to the TiVo Roamio device. It's a bit pricey and has that annoying service charge, but at least it is a start.

The Fire Stick is very similar to what I have with the Roku units I have, but still no OTA.

I still have not ruled out a XBMC box of some sort, I'll just have to do more digging and learning about what they call plug-in's and the like.

I'm still open to any suggestions if you stumble on anything!

The Mohu Channels has most of everything (runs on Android apps), and incorporates OTA. It's not quite out for full release yet and I've heard some issues of bugs. I was going to go that route and decided to just do Roku. What's the big deal of changing the input once in a while?

I'm not against switching inputs, but the other one that lives here in the house needs absolute simplicity.

Yesterday I learned of an option that is under serious consideration, TabloTV w/ the Roku. As I mentioned, I already have some Roku boxes so the interface will not be a new learning curve, and the good folks at TabloTV have told me that they have an updated UI coming really soon for their Roku "channel".

Looks promising, streaming married to OTA.
