Please give the new Blind Melon a listen.

I've always loved Blind Melon. Although "No Rain" is overplayed there are many other songs that are never played on the radio. Their second album "Soup", is an extremely underrated jewel. I own a rare copy on vinyl! With the passing of Shannon Hoon the band broke up over 13 years ago. Now Blind Melon is back with a new vocalist Travis Warren. I had the pleasure of seeing the newly reunited band last year. The band sounded amazing and the showing of melonheads was very moving. After the show I hung out with the band members by the tour bus. They were very appreciative of their fans and excited about the future. Check out their Myspace page which includes information about their new album (to be released April 22). High points in the video include Travis Warren getting a hug from Shannon Hoon's mother. The back of her t-shirt says, "Peace Love and Shannon Hoon"

I heard about this a few months ago, and a lot of critics are seeming to be ok with the new vocalist-
I will check em' out myself and report back--

ps- Soup is such a great record. Do you have nico? (i think thats the title) the release after Shannon's death. Any good?

I will probably get this album, even if it feels a little weird with a different singer i liked the band as a whole and i should give the new guy a chance...
Nico is a good album that has it's moments, but i dont think it is as good as the two before it, you can tell it is recordings that got left over from the Soup sessions. But if you like Blind Melon, get it! The closing track "letters from a porcupine" Shannon sang into a bandmembers answering machine, a great look into their creative process, an embryo of a song that unfortunately never made it through the whole pregnancy ( i would make a lousy music journalist i know ;)

Thats kinda what I thought it was. I am thinking its going to be a used purchase if I can find it. -

I never much cared for hippie bands. Are these guys really a hippie band or was it all just from the "No Rain" video? Have to admit that that whole thing just turned me off.

I have to say that I used to really dislike "No Rain" at the time it was popular, but listening to it now I hear a lot more substance and find it enjoyable.

Hippiebands? Hmmm, I dont know really what makes a band a hippieband, long hair, vintage instruments, inspired by the late 60's early 70's music?
Listen to them and decide if you like it, the music might appeal to you more than their taste in clothes...or not:D

I didn't think anyone was going to reply to this thread. Nico has two standout tunes: "Pull" and "Soul One". It's good to know some people like them. They're on tour now. So check them out!

I've been a avid fan for many years. Those that are only familiar with "no rain" are really missing out on the potential of the other tunes. They had a unique sound and plenty of outstanding tracks for such a short career. My only regret is that they did not record more songs before Shannon Hoon died.A sad sad day when he passed away.

I once had some live material and cover tunes they did. Some good some bad and my damn dog chewed up the cd-r.Just damn ! They did some great Zeppelin covers !
