Poor Sansui G-22000 on E-bay..

That amp section looks almost like smoke damage. It's not due to moisture or excessive heat as there is no bubbling of the veneer. From what I've seen as an ex-firefighter, it would appear that the front-end was grabbed on the way out of a burning home. The amp section was left behind and got smoked, like a ham, on a floor above the fire.

Strange to see that fan running. I had my old G22K playing for hours more than once just a little... loud, and it was just barely warm let alone had the fan running.

I've never had mine kick on either.. and all the people that i've talked to that own them have never had theirs kick on either. Strange..

"This unit seems to function fine but due to the age i will have to sale as is"

Seems to function fine? Is that worth $1000+?

The smoke damage is an interesting theory... that really IS what it looks like, and might well be true! Given how heavy these things are, someone "rescuing" only one half in such a situation isn't far-fetched, either. An accumulation of smoke residue all over the inside would result in significantly increased heat retention, which would also cause the fan to kick on (You have to run these HARD (loud and long) --or else be in the middle of an already hot desert or jungle environment-- to make those fans kick on, when the units are in good condition.)

It's obviously restorable, if it mostly "seems to work fine." They does admit that he hasn't tested/tried everything, though, and is selling it "as is," so there may be some real issues. There isn't any significant outer damage, although there are some nicks and scratches here and there. IF (and only if) the price is adjusted for the extra work that would need to be done --which could include an almost full rebuild of the power-amp section, if it has been smoked-- then it might still be worth getting, esp. if you can do a local pickup. But without KNOWING why it looks that way, and estimating the cost of restoration, I wouldn't get that particular one. Capacitors, etc... can mostly be replaced, but a few components would be difficult, and I wouldn't want a well-baked transformer, if it had been close enough to a fire to suffer heat strain.

Is smoke damage what turned the back case black? I doubt that. Too many question marks for the $1,000 plus bid that it already has.

That fan shouldn't be turning on at all.. and if there's a "shortage" in volume.. there's definitely something going on in that thing!

I can't believe the price, I wonder if there's some bids that are going to be retracted with this new info..

I realize this is an old thread now, but I wanted to add that mine never comes on either, although I've never run it past 1/3 maximum levels for fear of ruining my Advents!
