Questions about Technics kit

Hi,

Is there any real difference between Technics model numbers ending A and D, for example, the CD players SL-PS670A and SL-PS670D (except the years they were produced)?

What is AA all about (my ST-GT550 tuner apparently has AA output)?

Has Technics stopped making hi-fi separates? Looking at Panasonic/Technics sites I can only see complete hi-fi systems.

Thanks for any info.

John.

Not sure about your model numbers but other than the 1200 turntables they dont make anything worth having now.

Even the Home theatre amps have been rebadged as Panasonic. I guess the marketing people and bean counters got thier way in the end.

General consensus is, Technics Stopped good audio stuff in the early 80's. I think they made good gear from what I've read and heard, and I wouldn't trade my TOTL Technics rack mount stuff for new stuff unless I was drinking heavily. They have made some good old gear, as good or better than their competitors. New stuff, however, is Best Buy, cheap as they can make it gear, except as noted, the Pro turntables, I think they lead the market in those for DJs and stuff, but I haven't seen any good audio gear as of late. i have an old su v450 amp class aa which sounds pretty good.i also have a mission cyrus one and in some respects the technics is better. the aa refers to the type of power output i think.

I have a bit of Technics gear floating around. A mid 80's? SUVX800 amp has taken top spot at the moment with the AX 700 Yamaha being just ousted as favourite. They both have similar specs but the technics has an impressive amount of "grunt" probably due to being a twin transformer model, the Yamaha has a better more transparent preamp side but run in direct with the pre amp side by passed the Technics just seems to have more drive and better Bass.
They both run circles around my big$ new Denon Home theatre Amp in stereo mode.
I like stuff that was made before the beancounters got all concerned with shipping weight and the sales department were not concerned about "features" and you had knobs and buttons rather than headache inducing menus.
