Ranking the Toy Story movies

Let me start off by saying that I love the Toy Story movies. My wife and I took our daughter to see the first one in back in ‘96 when she was 4 years old and we enjoyed every sequel. Fast forward 23 years and we recently went with her (27 years old now) to see the newest installment. I must say that it is a very good movie as one one expect from a Pixar production. After seeing it, I started to think about just how to rank the Toy Story movies from best to worst. After long and careful consideration, here is what I came up with. Keep in mind that this is my opinion only and I would be interested in others’ takes on how these four movies stack up against each other:
#1. Toy Story
How can this not be the best as it started the whole franchise and was also revolutionary from a technical standpoint? It had told the poignant story of the world as seen through the eyes of a child’s toy and how the love of a child was the most Important thing as well as the realization of just exactly what your purpose was.
#2. Toy Story 3
This movie came out at about the same time as my daughter was graduating high school so the message of Andy growing up and leaving for college was especially touching to me. Plus the one-two gut punch of the gang facing incineration at the dump followed by Andy giving them away to Bonnie had me bawling at the end of the movie. For that reason mainly, it is my second favorite.
#3. Toy Story 4
I can’t exactly say why I ranked this movie above Toy Story 2 but I think it is because of the fact that Pixar did such a good job of picking up the story after it seemed like TS 3 ended so perfectly. I won’t say any more as I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who hasn’t seen this movie yet so I will move on to:
#4. Toy Story 2
First of all, this was a VERY good sequel, but one of them had to finish in last place and for me it was this one. The best part was the flashback vignette “When She Loved Me” telling the story of Jessie being abandoned by her owner Emily. This one too had me choking up on my popcorn.
All four of these movies are excellent and were very difficult for me to rank, but I am comfortable with the picks I have chosen.

For me:

1,4,3,2.

4 hit me right in the feels. The only reason it's not #1 is that it wouldn't have done so if toy story 1 hadn't defined half of my childhood. (The other half was star wars. :D)

Yeah. 4 was a great movie. As I said they were all very hard to rank. Interesting that you had 2 last also.

Haven't seen 4 yet.

Kind of impressive that a kid's movie is good enough for adults to enjoy, and still enjoy many years after it was released. I really think thats the genius of Pixar's films. They aren't that mind-numbing "kids crap" that parents just wish would end.
