Sansui AU-719

I have a sansui au719 that has a dirty volume control. I can't figure out how to either get the knob off or spray inside the sealed control to clean it. How do you clean what looks like a sealed unit? Thank you. Send reply to garylow2@aim.com as I don't always get on the forums.

If someone wants to email then have at it. I'll post here not only for the OP's benefit but for other's as well.

The knobs are secured with a set screw. The absolute best way to clean the potentiometer is to remove and completely disassemble it. However I don't recommend this for a novice whatsoever. The next best thing is to access the pot so product can be sprayed inside. In order to that, ALL of the knobs and the faceplate have to come off in order to access the pot shaft nut. Once the pot is free from the front chassis plate you can then loosen the screws on the front of the pot housing. With the screws loose the stacks can be gently separated enough for some product to be injected inside.

Do NOT drill small access holes like some, what I call hackers will tell you.

Turn the amp onto its side and unscrew the screws holding the bottom plate. Look up at the bottom of the volume potentiometer and u should see 3 small slot/vents in the pot. Spray deoxit up into those vents and twist the knob back and forth to work it into the pot
