Schiit Freya+ passive mode failed

Bought this preamp in May 2021. Have used it more than any other preamp owned. Noticed last week the Passive mode was quieter than expected. Preamp has passive, differential JFET buffer and tube modes. Passive and JFET buffer modes have always results in the same system volume previously. Now passive is much quieter than JFET buffer mode. Also, when the volume knob is turned up to maximum in passive mode, the preamp mutes itself. Never did that before. Strange that JFET and tube modes still work fine, but passive that is suppose to have minimum circuitry involved has a problem.

Sending it back to Schiit today for a warranty repair.

I've never used the passive mode in either of my Freya+ units, I did try the JFET mode a few times, but it sounded the same as the Parasound P6 that it replaced. I like the tube mode so that's where they stay.
The 5 year warranty that comes on many of Schiit's equipment is a good thing to have.

I would expect passive mode to just bypass the two active modes.
Faulty switch? It seems odd it would trigger mute in passive mode though.
Is the switching done with a controller switch in those?
Ive had to replace controller switches before. Those chips had many legs and controlled volume, tone controls, balance, etc.
If it does use a chip that does the acual switching maybe thats the problem?

I don’t know about a controller switch. The muting occurs when the volume knob is tuned to 100%, which it never did before a few days ago when I noticed iced the overall volume in passive mode was reduced.

Well...........Schiit says there is nothing wrong with the Freya+ preamp and I must have an impedance mismatch between the Freya+ and tube amp it was connected to.

Strange that the problem started all the sudden and nothing was changed in the system best I can recall. Did have the preamp connected to the tube amp via some long interconnects because the preamp was sitting on a different audio rack.

Received the Freya+ back this morning and hooked it back up with some shorter interconnects to the amp by placing it on the same rack as the tube amp. Everything is working fine in passive mode. I should have done more trouble shooting before returning it.
