Sony TC-580 problems

I recently picked up a Sony TC-580 Reel to reel player. It was home to a large family of mice at some point in time. I have done my best to undo all the damage from the mice, and now everything looks about right. However, when pressing the play forward button, it plays backwards. pressing the play backwards button also makes it play backwards. If i hold the play forward button, it plays forwards. however it won’t stay playing forward unless i am holding the button. Any ideas?

Double or triple check your wiring at the switches. I was working on my TC-580 earlier today and disconnected the wires from pretty much all of them to clean the oxidation. Put one of the wires on the wrong terminal at the stop switch and it would keep trying to play unless I held the stop switch down. Finally realized my mistake, put the wire onto the correct terminal, and all is good again.
