Staring at rump roast, what to do, what to do.

I'm sitting here with a couple of 3-4 lb rump roasts and can't figure out what to do with them. I don't really want to make the old stringy Pot Roast with potatoes and carrots.

I was just watching that Julie and Julia movie and finally 'got' what Julia Childs' first book was all about - bringing French cooking to regular Americans. I wonder if I should make Beef Bourginion....

Or whatever. Any ideas?

Shredded beef samiches!

Salt and pepper roast real well.
Add about a tblsp of oil to a heavy pan.
On medium high heat, brown meat well on all sides. You will want a crust.
Throw into crock pot with a box of Swanson Beef Stock
Add a couple garlic cloves, two stalks, one medium onion (cut in quarters) of celery and a couple bay leaves.

Cook on high for 4 hours or low for around 8 hours. (You want this absolutely falling apart)

When roast is done, fork it! haha shred the beef with a couple of forks and throw it in a large sauce pan on med.

Add stock from crock pot until you get it to the consistency you want. About 2 cups.

Salt and pepper to taste.

Serve on a good hard roll with some home made steak fries.

Enjoy

I know where you are coming from. I have one in the sink now. Fixing to throw it in the crock pot. It will be ready for supper. I put onion flakes on it. I small can of gravy and about 15 or 20 small new potatoes. Then I will slow cook some butter beans and ham on the stove all day.

Sad to say, it was a rough week and I punted them into the freezer. In due course I will try some of the suggestions above. :thmbsp:

I got one the other day. I cut slits in it and stuffed slices of garlic in them. I rubbed it with ground corriander and then set it on top of a wire rack in a roasting pan. I eigthed 3 good sized onions, put them in the pot and added an inch of water. I put that uncovered in a 260 degree oven for five hours and it came out a perfect medium and very tender
