Technics Sb-6000a

You should give a listen, I had a pair of 7000 that I sold to Kam. They are amazingly accurate speakers. I was astonished, as I didn't know Technics every did anything approaching high end.

So I have a dilemma, these were on Epay (twice). For some reason, they are now offered to me via an EBay second chance listing for the price I offered.

My dilemma is that I am bidding on a pair (locally) of Klipsch Heresy speakers which I would rather own and wanted to let this fine community know about these since I could get then for 135.00 for the pair (locally as well) and make them available here possibly.

Let me know before 4/15/04.

WHICH 1s?

I am somewhat biased in my opinion, but since I have both pairs of these speakers, I will chime in.

The Technics are very fine speakers, but my choice would be the Heresys, hands down. (which would be a steal at $135)

Reasons: Technics are a 2-way, bout 92dB, (I had to turn the tweeter level to max (normal?) in order to get great sound in the high ranges.)

The Heresys are 3-way with HORN Mids and Tweets, (this is where my bias comes in) bout 93 dB, (or so) and excellent as front channel speakers for Home Theatre, a 2-Channel Music System, and Tube Audio.

My $.02, and I hope it helps.

Heresys.

I have not heard either of these speakers. From all that I've read and for only $135.00, run, don't walk, to buy them.

I had the SB-7000As in college and they rocked harder than anything else in the dorm. My mother liked them enough to buy the 5000As, which are still in the family. We listened to the 6000s and felt the 5000s sounded better becuse the 6000s larger woofer didn't integrate as well in the crossover region. That's picking nits, and they're all fine speakers that I'd own today and enjoy. They do have foam woofer surrounds and some foam bits on the cab to kill reflected sound. The original material will be long gone.
I'd still go for the Klipsch for reasons of ultimate value. That price is a steal. I'd probably rather listen to the 6000As because of my love/hate relationship with PWK's 'hybrid' speakers. That's mid's dispersion pattern just never worked for me.
You are spoiled for choice. Make the most of the opportunity!
Cheers

I recently acquired a pair of SB-7000a Technics. I agree with Bauhausler, they are great sounding speakers.

A fantastic tweak for the Technics is rewiring. The factory wire is at best 18 gauge, it could be as small as 20 or 24! I rewired using silver 12 gauge and the difference was amazing, especially in bass clarity and control. I also installed better speaker terminals.

I have heard that the tweeters are a bit fragile and finding a replacement if you cook one might be a challenge. I push mine pretty hard with a good amp and haven't had any problems.

Good luck and score em if they are cheap! If nothing else, they are cool to look at!

I've had Klipsch Heresy's and they are great speakers.. From what I've read the Technics are also great speakers.. So if there isn't any shipping involved and cash isn't a big problem.. What the hell buy both pair and see for yourself which you like better.. Than sell the others..

Man what a great bunch here! Actually my use of the english language in the written form leaves a lot to be desired. It was the Technics that I could have for 135.00/pair.

Personally, from all the detailed online digging I have been doing, the Heresy is the way to go and actually to stay away from the Heresy II's in that the horms are plastic and require quite a bit of tweaks to remove some harshness in the upper midrange.

Thanks again you are all the best!

Just looked a a pair of SB6000a's in a local store for $100/pr. The foam looks very good, similar to some smaller Realistic foam woofers...a lil thicker, but flexible. They look nice....cabinets and grills are very good...a few slight scratches on the vinyl sides, but overall very nice! Still tossing it over if I should buy them????

Sheet man! $100. If you don't like them you should be able to flip them for more than a "C" note.
I really like the SB Technics series and always wanted a pair.
I first head them at the CES show in Chicago when the Technics line was introduced.

Bought mine for $115, and I'm not selling.
Nice addition to the stable.
GO!!!
And yes the 7000's are nicer, but that's not what's on the table.
