The Q-Up

So what's the story on the Q-Up tonearm lifter not being compatible with SL-1200 and knockoffs? How can it not be compatible?

And yes, $60 is too much money for a buck worth of plastic and metal, but what's the alternative?

If it works, I'm in. So...will it work on an AT-LP120? A Pioneer PL-550? Why or why not?

The AT Safety Raiser will just barely fit in the space between arm and platter but the Q-Up will not. It's just as much about the wide bevelled edge of the platter.

For what it's worth, the Q Up is on sale for $50 right now and the AT-6006 Safety Raiser typically sells for somewhere north of $100.

I don't know of anyone who has used that eBay knockoff but it does look promising. Those wider base pieces might not fit though.

The Little Fwend looks great but is pricey. And I don't think I tried The Lift on a 1200 when I had one.

I have one of the ebay knockoffs. Works great. It is tiny but not sure it would work on the 1200. IMG_0490.JPG

I'm trying to find a damping kit (SME FD200) that consists of half a dozen or so little plastic parts that bolt onto a SME 3009 II.
They've been selling, used, in the $200 range. The only one I can find now is in Germany for $300.
$200 to $300 for a little box that has fewer plastic parts than a Mr. Potatohead game.

I wonder if we could make an arm lift out of a Mr. Potato Head game!

Little more complicated than "a buck's worth of plastic" as earlier discribed, but ...

Don't imagine it'd be all that difficult to modify the arm with an extension to allow mounting on the Technics table.

I use one of these. Small diameter base. Works great and has different bases to help with the arm/platter height.
not the cheapest though. I actually used a very small amount of silicone to soften the upward movement. The unit screws apart and allows you to add the silicone.

The Levitator seems to work, just a pity the video is so dark you can't really see it.

I have a couple of the ATs. I must have a go at fitting one to my 1210. I never thought it possible, but the pic at post 9 is encouraging me to give it another try.

Did you ever get a q up or similar device to work with the 120? I want one for my 120 but not sure it'll work

I have no direct experience with the Q-Up but I don't think it will fit a Technics 1200.

There are a lot of offerings on E-bay of lifters that have a smaller footprint and may fit. They look like a copy of the old Safety Razer . I am looking into getting one for my 1200.

Anyone try of these? Thay have gone down in price and go for around $50.

Scroll up. I show the Safety Raiser on a 1200. It was tight but it fit. I've also used the knockoff on other turntables including a Rega with R200 arm and on my Kenwood KD-650. They would work on the 1200, EXCEPT the extra height spacer they send is larger in diameter and that might not fit. It also might not be required but I don't have a 1200 or similar here to be able to say for sure.
